How big of a ball valve do you currently have?

How big of a sprinkler valve are you talking about?

What piston setup are you talking about?

What's your barrel diameter and length

What's your chambers diameter and length?

If you are talking about a chamber or barrel sealing piston, how big is the tee housing?

What's the piston's pilot valve?

What's the sprinklers pilot valve?

Come on man, give us some more details, you're lucky I didn't delete this topic and send you a PM, where you would get pissed off at me for deleteing the topic.

In short, you will get a increase in performance most likely.

If you didn't know that, don't think about a piston valve unless you're buying one.

current ball valve- 3/4"
desired sprinkler valve- 3/4"-1"
never mind i dont want a piston valve, i dont understand them enough
barrel size- 1 1/2"x3ft
chamber size- 1 1/2"x6ft
blowgun for sprinkler pilot valve

im sorry for asking, i didnt think i was going to get smited.

You wouldn't of got 'smited' if you had given has details in the first place.

You really should know what details may be important or some use to us when helping you.

Things like this can also be searched or looked upon in the wiki quite quickly.

Hmm this one is tricky because your valve chokes alot of flow since your barrel is twice the size.

A 1" sprinkler would be better because you have a shorter barrel, but a 3/4" wouldn't do it justice.

i would encourage you to go for a piston valve (not to play the devil's advocate on every topic, mr. c) for a few reasons.
1. CHEAP!-especially once you get into say, 2" valves which would probably benefit the specs of this peticular gun.-a simple piston can be made from 2x 1.25" endcaps, a small section of 1.25" pipe, and some rubber for a sealing face. Not much more than $5 where i live (including buying a 5ft section of 1.25" pipe) An 2" sprinkler valve might cost you as much as $60USD :X
2. Efficiency-It would be a great improvement over a sprinkler valve, and even more over a ball valve
3. Interesting-Something new might spark some new creative ideas, and allow for some different launcher configurinations. It may also refresh your spud-gunning enthusiasm!

Yes a piston valve would be a better option, but like the OP said, he's not quite ready for that option, and I don't think he is either.

Though you'd be surprised what can happen in a week, so if you educate yourself enough, i'm sure you could eventually build one.

You'll be amazed at the performance difference between a ball valve and a modded sprinkler valve, with the added benefit that it's much, much easier to aim something when all you have to do is pull a blowgun trigger as opposed to knocking open a ball valve.

You can get them already modded for next to nothing - sprinkler valves, because you're worth it ;)
