Hey everyone,

I was talking with some friends about spud guns recently, and they were saying, "what if you put a metal deicer in the front? 0.01 second french fries!"

And on that, I actually got to thinking, What if you actually made a gun powerful enough to fire a potato through a slicer, but weak enough not to rip off the slicer and send broken shards of sharpened metal shrapnel downrange...

What do you guys think? are you up to making fries out of a high velocity potato?

I think all you would need to next is make a deep fat frier target

Anyone care to try it? I don't have any big guns at my disposal at the moment... but I want to see people try to put spud guns to culinary use :D

This idea comes up every now and again. If you try searching, I believe there is a video link somewhere on the forum to someone actually trying to make fries in such manner.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

People also shot a spud across stuff like chicken wire.
Some people failed and killed the wire, but one time I have seen a succes.
Till the day I'm dieing, I'll keep them spuddies flying, 'cause I can!

That is how real fries are made, they essentially have a stream of potatoes flying out of a firehose towards a grate.

Damn...I've always thought about doing that, but I've never seen anyone actually attempt it...
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Sounds interesting. I did some googling.

" The potatoes go through a centrifugal pump and are shot out at about 50mph (80 km/h) at some stationary blades which chop the tuber into what the industry calls "strips".

And you thought potato cannons were cool? "
