I believe you are talking about the little emergency compressors that run off the lighter port in the dash. The Helix and Viar compressors are designed for automotive airbag suspension. I see over 100 psi in my 2 gallon tank in under 60 seconds with my Helix.

The plug in the dash variety need to keep the power draw below the lighter fuse size, of then 10 or 15 amps. The larger compressor will need a direct battery connection to work properly and not melt fuses.

Well I would hope there was a fuse somewhere in that plan. :D At least a 50 amp inline... When I wired up my power inverter (nowhere near your 1kW model in output, though), I used 6 gauge wire and an inline 50 amp blade fuse.

For that amperage, I recommend fusible links instead of fuses on low voltage applications.

You can see the small wire I used for my inverter. It is welding cable for and arc welder. :D

DC wire is the little black wire off the left side. When installing an inverter you want very little voltage drop.
