"Dead" ingiters

I've been reading thru a few of the threads on here and i notice how a lot of people tend to say their replacement BBQ igniters are "dead" or "broken".

I have 3 combustion cannons that use these BBQ igniters and not one has ever 'died' (one did break once, but it was the metal clip and i even managed to fix that).

I was just wondering how they 'die'?

Obviously they break, otherwise they wouldnt sell "REPLACEMENT BBQ IGNITERS" at home depot, but i'm asking how.[/i]

The crystal in the bottom wears out from being hit really hard hundreds of thousands of times.... its not so much with the BBQ igniters its more like the long-handled lighter sparkers used in mini's. they wear out FAST.

I have a grill igniter that has been used consistantly for over 30 years, and it will still produce enough voltage to create an arc across a 15mm gap. They do wear out eventually, but it would require several thousand operations to produce a noticable effect. Most fail prematurely due to fracturing of the piezoceramic material.

Yes, some can last forever but a lot suck.

They just don't make things as good as they did 30 years ago...
I've also had a grill ignitor that has lasted many years and never gotten any weaker. Then again Ive had el cheapo lighters die in less than 5 minutes.
