I take hard-tech production design at my highschool and this year we have to design one product, that solves a problem, then build it throughout the year.
I have to have a 'client', someone i'm building it for, but that doesn't mean I don't get to keep it.
e.g if I built an tool organsier for my garage, my parents could be the client because it helps keep the garage clean and they may use it, but at the end of the day I get to keep it.
We have until about end of July, to design and build this product.
I know it's a long time, but the sooner I finish the sooner I can make what ever I want.
Money isn't really an issue either, but i'd like to keep it under $120US ($150NZD)
So I was thinking I could do something along the lines of my hobby, spudding. As far as I know we can build anything out of anything.
I only have two ideas so far...
1) Drain unclogger, i'm sure you're all familiar with that.
Well I have 3 guns that already can do that, and don't feel like building another.
2) Design and build a nerf launcher like that Army guy here did for the military.
I have a navy base quite close to me, I would use them as the client, but only for desiging, once built I would keep it.
They may not want to be a client in a project that is potentially illegal and dangerous, or they may see no interest in being the client.
And I doubt NZ's Army/Navy even have drills for simulating RPG's in CQB against an armoured vehicle.
So any other ideas?
For ideas, i'm currently building a hybrid that will shoot BB's, fishing sinkers and modded .303 projectiles and I also have a nerf launcher in the making.
But i'm willing to start a new project from scratch.
Cheers.

Yes I remember that, and your semi-racist comment towards waspsjackssmirkingrevenge wrote:Good place to start thinking?

well, if you discriminate against both black and yellow, it was completely racist
You could make an antenna launcher, or how about a pneumatic with knife blades in a fixed sabot to test kevlar vests, I've seen it done.

you know that commercial on tv, well i dont know if NZ had it or not but here in the US it's a fishing rod/nerf-like launcher that launched the hook and bobber setup out a distance so you didn't have to worry about catching the hook in the trees behind you when casting, but mainly it was marketed towards kids. Maybe you could do something like that. Since you said you can already shoot fishing sinkers all you'd have to do is incorporate a smaller version of that into a fishing rod setup so that all you'd have to do is release the bail on your reel and shoot the sinker/hook setup.

Good ideas from both, but I need 'clients' and I don't know any fisherman or cable guys.
I could make a nerf launcher for antenna launching, that would work well, but I need a 'client' and I don't want some random idiot from the cable company.
Maybe I could say the client is my Dad because he sometimes is fiddling around with our TV and internet cables.
Might have a bit of convincing to do tomorrow with the teacher, shall be interesting.
And the teacher already said my Dad owning a hardware store is enough expertise for anything really.

How about the police department and a riot control cannon?
You could also try something like a fertilizer launcher, which sprays fertilizer over am area with the pull of a trigger. Almost any one who gardens or has a lawn could fall under as a client.

Going to the Police with an idea for a cannon that could land me a $4000 fine or 6months in the slammer, they don't even need to do their job
Hmm fertilizer, I am in the suburbs, not sure. Will think about that one also.
Thanks.

That would have to be rapid fire semi-auto, I don't think he could out-do the FN303Killjoy wrote:How about the police department and a riot control cannon?

Joking, but now a serious idea:
Maybe some sort of car-lift?
