It's the basic principle of the pressure boiler of a steam locomotive. Trap the steam, keep shoving the temperature up, you can easily get hundreds of psi. Now - take away some steam to run the locomotive. This drops the pressure, but the water in the boiler is already hot enough that some more fla...

My original intent was to get water at a boiling temperature quickly. I believe I used to term "boiling" too freely. In short, yes, the vacuum is OK because I want the temperature, not the gas. In regards to the partial vacuum, if you remove air, then boil the water, won't the steam just return the ...

is the lower boiling temperature due to the vacuum ok for the project
of course it isn't
I am not quite sure what is being said here. Perhaps the question needs to be reiterated.

I stated earlier that this was just a project I wanted to do to see if I could boil water very quickly. Steam was not in mind. Thanks for the help everyone. EDIT: I came to the realization that if the vacuum was removed, this would essentially be a small fire tube boiler. To whom it may concern, thi...

Thank you everybody. In terms of quickly boiling water, I have altered my design. It would just add an extra heat source, of which half of the heat would be radiated into the surrounding air. The most efficient convenient way is a pressure cooker, since it stops the energy evaporating out, and it's ...

Re: Tank Materials

What is the most reliable way to join two parallel lengths of PVC together? One technique I used was to take two T-joints, sand the insides so the joints slips over the pipe, and connect the two tops to each other with a small piece of pipe. This will connect two parallel pipes with the fittings to...

Cool, thanks for the idea. I have one more to idea to try.

Electric heaters and hot plates create heat through the use of running electricity through coils. If you wrapped a cylinder with a wire much like a coil, would it heat the water inside any faster or effectively?

Hmm, that makes sense. Indeed, I have seen the flaw in my design.

That being the case, does anybody else have a suggestion for a way to boil water rapidly?

If I am reading this correctly, you are building a hybrid cartrige system. If this is the case, I would go with Frankrede's suggestion of using Steel. However, if this is simply for a combustion cartridge purpose, then I would suggest building the cartridges out of PVC. This is due to the fact that ...

Instant Water Boiling

Hello to all spudders, mega here. Just popping in to run a theory by everyone. For no reason in particular, I wanted to design a way to make water boil faster. Thus, I came up with this idea: Electricity produces a large amount of heat when it is not insulated, regulated, and etc. Therefore, running...

It also illustrates an interesting point. I'd imagine lectures from the mythbusters would be entertaining.

So to clarify (I am having a little trouble), the difference between this and JSR's blowback design is the fact that the airflow is cut off for a split second? I always assumed that the spring by itself would reset the process in the blowback design due to the drop in pressure.

The newscaster talks like she is his Mom. Thanks Jack, that made my day.

On a different point, the gun looks good. As far as uploading pictures goes, take a look at this thread. It has a couple of different methods.
