Just sand and prime before you paint, (paint primer!).

I just use normal Krylon and I've actually found that the cheap stuff that they sell in Walmart for $1.20 a can works really well because it's thin and doesn't get gummy.

Use 600 grit sandpaper and rough of your surface and clean it with rubbing alcohol or mineral spirits. Then apply a spray type primer to it and then paint as usual.

If your gonna talk like that you have to go for the full effect. For example "Ye has been hereth. His account has broketh". If I could I would post this in Old English font or whatever it is with the swirly things and capital letters are extra fancy  .
