yeah i just modded 13 sprinkler valves... the 13'th one i forgot to put the spring back in under the cover and a few 120 psi shots ripped the diaphragm up pretty good...

no wonder the damn diaphragm wouldnt seal up....

yeah i ordered 20 of them, after i modded a dozen of them i guess i got careless, i used the last one on a simple pneumatic, when i take apart the valve again ill show a pic of it, but it still works so it'll be my little backyard example piece.


heres the cannon that ripped it, simple inline pneumatic with a 4" by 12" chamber, 2" by 31.2" barrel, gonna add a ball valve off the air compressor nipple so i can fill it, and close the ball valve to carry it somewhere, a schrader valve so if i dont shoot it at home i can use a car pump, and a pressure gauge.

Why would the diaphragm would get torn up if there isn't a spring in the valve? Sorry, its just I heard that if you remove the spring it will decrease the opening time without damaging the valves.

well the spring kinda helps with absorbing the shock of the diaphragm moving up from the release of pressure, i dont know if removing the spring is really what ripped it, but i do know that the phragm wouldnt have been able to come up high enough to break the seal on the bottom of the valve body (which is how it ripped). using over 100 psi is most likely what caused it to pop.

removing the spring does allow the phragm to open faster however the phragm wont seat itself without the spring, so air will just flow out of the barrel unless you plug the end of it and allow the phragm to build up pressure. upon removing the cover again and reinstalling the spring i looked at where the phragm was "ripped". it wasnt really ripped at all just not stuck down to the valve body on the solenoid port, i can still hear a little air pissing out when its charged up and pressurized but it still works so im gonna abuse it till its toast

I forgot where it is, but someone did tests to see what shot faster in terms of FPS, and with the spring did.

so the vavle/gun setup with the spring shot a higher feet per second than without the spring?

Yes the setup shot faster when the spring was left in. It was only like 3fps though.

oh i guess thats no biggie then, its more of a pain in the ass without the spring cause the phragm doesnt wanna seal itself without the spring, unless you hold your hand over the barrel (equalizes pressure?) and release it when you feel pressure
