OK, so every year my mom's birthday comes around (obviously) and I can never think of anything to give her.
As I was looking at shmanman's trebuchet, and an idea spawned in my head...
My mom loves gardening, and always throws snails over our wall into the road... sooo: miniature snail throwing trebuchet! :D

It turned into a catapult, due to the fact it works better than a trebuchet for its purpose. Its 25cm long (5") 15cm high (3") with the swing-arm being 25cm long (5").
Here it is:

(sorry about the bad quality, I scanned it!)

It can shoot a paintball about 15-20m (+- 60 ft) so its comparatively strong for a small catapult.
What do you think?

btw, please ignore the name written on it, some girls in my school wrote all over it. Shooting peanuts in school is fun!

Its nice its cool. I like it. If i was a snail it would be a great way to go. Flying through the air, wind rushing. And then hit the road and then say hi to a truck. :D .

Oh and how did you get it to school if anyone did that at my school you'd get beaten up and get it taken unless it was for a school project. 'd like it for my Birthday!.
Great WOrk.

Edit- In South Africa do you speak Queen's English or US English? (just asking).I was told Queen's but obviously not.

I just hid it in my bag and silently propelled peanuts at everyone from the back :D . But everyone in my class is pretty mellow and took it in good nature. The teachers thought it was a project though (yay for white lies!)

@ twitch: Thanks. I hope so too, because I cut my finger down to the bone with a hacksaw cutting some wood for it! Hurts like hell.

A glove gun would almost be perfect in class with sultanas(not that i've tried it) . But it makes a noise. So i think a mini pneumatic.Time for some more plans.

BTW, did your teacher catch you firing it?

My old math teacher cursed, got into heated accusatory arguments with the class, and, then, broke the door off it's pneumatic-return device after chasing some kid out the door who was yelling at him. He just hit the door so hard opening it, it ripped right off the thing.

A small, portable pneumatic has always been in my plan books since I started spudding. I haven't built it, partly for fear of the consequences of what would happen if I just got the temptation to bring it to school to shoot spitballs or something, but also because I've only tried it with a 1/2" barrel so far, and I don't have a 1/2" pipe tap so I couldn't get a reliable way of connecting the barrel to the back of a steel bushing straight. The end result sealed crappy, and I could throw marbles farther than it could shoot them. So...

BTW, that's a nice catapult. I made my dad a fake artillery shell for Father's day out of PVC parts and a pop-off valve for the fuze. It looked really realistic, and you could unscrew the back and slide a card in it.
