Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? How to stop a marble or round ammo thats slightly smaller than barrel id from rolling out when aiming down?

Im using a barrel with id of about 17.5 mm(20 poly) and I am in need of a way to stop my ammo from rolling out when i shoot downwards, like off my veranda.

I was thinking like a tooth bush head epoxied inside the barrel just a bit in front of the valve? I remember hearing that somewhere. Failing that or I'll just have to wad in front of the ammo too but its a hassle!!!

Long story shot, has anyone had this problem and could you share some advice?

Once I have this little problem solved I shall post my new cannon.

Cheers

A few bristles would work provided they would still allow the projectile to pass through on firing, but some sort of o-ring or rubber tubing at the breech end would be a much more professional approach - also, it would have the added benefit of holding the projectile sealed and immobile as the valve opened and sufficient air pressure was available to pop it out, hence increasing your power. That's the theory at least.

Yeah, this has been dicussed several times, but a good method for this is to drill a small hole right in front of the paintball/marble, and glue in some bristles through the hole. (not a toothbrush head in the barrel!)

A better way is to get some electrical tape and stick a small piece at the top of the inside of the barrel, right in front of your ammo. This also acts as a hop-up, giing the ammo backspin. This method requires a snug fit between the ammo and barrel, though.

A variation on this is to use a long piece of electrical tape, and put it lenthwise, from one end of the barrel to the other. To do this, attach a piece of string to the tape, and thread it through your pipe, and then pull the string til it gets the tape through the other side. Then pull up on both ends of the tape, sticking it to the top of the barrel. This method is more durrable than the second, and gives more backspin.

And another way... *looks up* has been discussed above... (you beat me, jsr)

Thanks guys. I think the bristles in a hole is way better than a brush head inside, didnt think about that too much

I use a tiny screw instead of an o ring to stop my ammo rolling into the valve, I did it like this only because I have different sized ammo(marbles, size 4 sinkers and smaller when in buck shot). Is that the concept you where talking about JSR or am I just noobing it up?

That tape idea is interesting, I'll look into that more, Im not too familiar with it but kind of get the concept. However I dont think I would be able to use it.

I'll get onto it tomorrow because I really want to post it up.

Thanks for your help.

i have also another way of overcoming this problem,

a small strip of tin rubber superglued to the I-D of the barrel acts as a wedge in a way.

maybe... just giving thoughts

Yes, thats a thought. Maybe I'll find some flexy rubber tube and put that in the hole instead of bristles. I'll see what I got in the workshop tomorrow.

Just some advice on the bristles, because I have used this method several times before.

A) Put the bristles further down the barrel than the breech. This is because otherwise if its directly below the breech hole, it causes jams and the projectile doesnt sit nicely.

B) Put a small amount of bristles on either side of the barrel. This is because then it centers the projectile nicely, and is a stronger hold than a floppy long bristle; but not too strong

Method of construction:
Drill two tiny holes on either side of the barrel. Work out a length for the bristles. This should be a total of about 1/3 of the barrel ID. Therefor, each side should be 1/6 of the ID. Push a fair amount of bristles through the hole, and hotglue it in (hot glue sets the fastest, so it holds them their well; and there isnt too much pressure on the "joint"). Now just test with a ball and adapt.

Hope it all works out
really good quote/phrase here

i drilled a hole in mine and cut a zip tie to about a fourth of an inch then pushed it in the hole and glued it. but i think the bristles would work better

Cut out a small piece of felt about 1/4"x1/4" and glue it with some strong glue to the inside top of the barrel in front of the marble so the marble is held in place.

Everytime I use the search button it brings up pages of useless topics that I'm not searching. Have you ever trawled the like 50 pages before. Way to be a grump. Just for laughs type in stun gun ignition and see when it returns a hit.

Thanks for everyone else's opinions they are very helpful.

I can see that. Mods could tag threads with popular information so they could pop up first when those terms are searched for. You should PM PCGUY.
