Pilgrimman wrote:Frank, you need to cool off. First of all, I'm sure you meant to write "you're" at the beginning of your post. Did the cop shoot at a house? Maybe not, but if the cop was able to shoot the gun, that means the safety was disabled by either Cannon Creator, his buddies, or the cop. If the safety was off, the gun could have misfired, and possibly hit a house, among other things. If the cop felt the need to shoot the gun, he should have done so at a shooting range, where the chances of hitting a house or person are slim. While I agree that the silencer is indeed illegal, and the cop would have been certainly right to confiscate it, I think that he was a little excessive in his actions. It was obvious that the silencer was nothing more than a piece of plastic pipe. Again, my father is a Policeman, and a very well respected one, at that. Had he been the one to deal with this incident, he would have merely thanked Cannon Creator and his friends for their honesty, and given them a stern warning about possession of the silencer, and whatever gun-toting laws and such that they may have violated, however insignificantly. Was any harm done? No more harm than was done by Cannon Creator's possession of a homemade plastic silencer.

One more thing: It's usually a good idea to check your spelling and grammar before you call someone an idiot. I honestly used to like you, with relation to this website. However, in this case, you have demonstrated a severe lack of rationality. Do not insult me again, or I will be force to contact the moderators and let them handle this. It's a shame. I though you were nice, until now.
Don't get me wrong, we all have our agreements and disagreements.
I apologize for being rather rude and insulting.

Well confiscating the silencer i can understand because it's a ad suss having your own "homemade silencer" you know with the whole terrorist threat and all im pretty sure you would be able to use a PVC silencer on a firearm.

Just one comment on the police.
People are so quick to wine about how bad the police are, ruining our fun, taking our homemade guns away, even if we are doing it safely. But if someone steals your stuff the first thing you do is go to the police and expect them to find your stuff and throw the person who did it in jail.

Usually the complaint is that the police pursue petty cases while ignorning the more serious ones.

The little thins turn into big things. Eg that boy might of thought ok, if i can do this, i might next time hit some guy in the face with this lead pole i found just because he looked funny at me.

They are taking a similar approach on NSW, Aus to prevent young drivers from speeding, i wont go into details though.

I am kinda one foot in the door here about this. Yes, I don't like it (or should I say wouldn't like it. It hasn't happened to me) when they confiscate BB/spud guns and "ruin our fun". However, I also agree with the fact that rules are rules and they are simply enforcing them. Everyone seems to want to complain about something and it's easier to complain about something people relate to and don't enjoy. However, this certainly is no excuse to start attacking (metaphorically) police and the way they operate.

Also, as a side note, pilgramman, I don't think the police officer would go to the trouble of taking the BB guns to the firing range to shoot them. If I did confiscate them, I wouldn't use them at the range, I would use real firearms instead .

@CannonCreator: Don't let this experience ruin your respect for law enforcement officers. Trust me. I know a lot of cool and respectable cops and if the cop shot your BB gun, you should consider him a cool cop. He may have said some things to you that didn't like, but it's better than "Bubba" saying stuff to you that you don't like.

As far as the silencer goes, the others nailed it. ALL silencers are illegal. But he didn't take it. He was probably trying to let you be aware (as if you weren't already) that these things could land you federal time. But, trust me again, if you ain't using that thing on a real firearm, he ain't going to say much to you.

Just do me a favor and don't let one experience with a law enforcement officer ruin your attitude towards all others.

I wonder if things would have went a little differently if your friend had said to the officer, 'no, it's a surpressor'.

I think the best result would have been:

COP: "Is this a silencer?"
YOU: "No. It's a macroficational occuscope with an entexed retriculon counter."
COP: "What?"
YOU: "It's for looking past spice racks."
COP: "Ok... wait a minute, be serious."
YOU: "It allows me to see through thyme."
COP: "...are you drunk?"

4 hours, three blood tests, a breathalysing, and after finding you hiding in the MacDonald's dumpster, you 'admit' you forgot to take your pills today, and it's a specialist water filter.

This technique works for any questionable items you may have.
You just need a name for each of them, a fake use for it, and something that it 'really' does.

Highly effective.
