Ok, a Pop Quiz (since they are so much fun);
If the spud jams in the barrel of a combustion gun what does the gun sound like when it fires?
Simple question. I know at least a few forum members know the correct answer. What about the generic forum member?

None of the above, from my experience.
The few times I've had it happen it sounded like ssSPSSHHFFTSs (air leaking out from fittings and around the projectile.
In the case of my hybrid getting a marble stuck, it was ka-PPSSSFFFTT *CRACK* (propane meter hose bursting; forgot to take disconnect it)
Man, it's hard to describe sound through text

Really? I had it done two times. First just hissed then let out an almighty WOOF and sent the spud 100m and second time it backfired.

Ha ha, this happened to me. Because the chamber was not airtight, I heard a muffled "WHoof" of ignition, then a hissing as the chamber depressurised. I believe I used to much fuel.

Darn, I should have said "a well built gun". Fnord, twitch, and hailfire described what happens when the round jams but there are leaks in the gun and/or around the projectile.
A closed chamber, containing propane and air at 1 ATM makes virtually no noise when it is ignited. If you are really paying attention you might detect a faint tick or "pft" sound.
The sound is much fainter than the "tick" sound a stun gun makes.

Well I know when my mini gets a round that is too tight it just goes 'ssssSHsssss' Somthing interesting that used to happen to film can cannons I used to make, was that if the fuel mix was so bad it didn't pop, and hissed instead, it would ALWAYS misfire AGAIN if the ignitor was clicked. I think this was because the fuel mix was too rich, it fired but then as the gas cooled it sucked more air in, allowing the excess fuel to do another weak shot.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

It sounds like a long farty phooplooplooplooplooploooot.
well at least on my one because i don't have electronic ignition.I have an open hole ignition which means there's just a hole that you spray in and light from the same hole. But i am going to make a sparker one when i get round to it.

that is one of the most dangerous things you can do with a combustion gun short of shooting someone or putting gunpowder into it
in the upcoming presidential election, there will be several candidates who will be running, one of whom is Hillary Clinton. Now WAIT A SECOND!!! I though there was some sort of rule that prevented someone from serving more than two terms in office. Vote Against Hillary: Presidential Elections 08

I was shooting a rock rolled up in a sock and it was really tight, it went half way down the barrel and made a sound that sounded like shshshshshshshshshshshshsh and when i took off the clean out cap a bunch of smoke came out

I've been doing it that way for at least a year and never had a problem, still anything could happen.I think I'm gonna make a remote ignition Hybrid later on to replace that one.

Only time I had a round jam it was in a combustion gun I made out of a JIF peanut butter jar.
The cap fragmented and the fan went flying out as well. The spud never left the barrel.

Thats because JIF only makes crappy dwv jars. Next try skippy as their jars are nsf-pw.Only time I had a round jam it was in a combustion gun I made out of a JIF peanut butter jar.

Any time you use wadding that burns very easily (cloth, papertowels, etc),I was shooting a rock rolled up in a sock and it was really tight, it went half way down the barrel and made a sound that sounded like shshshshshshshshshshshshsh and when i took off the clean out cap a bunch of smoke came out
you will have a bad launch, because the jet of fire burns the wadding and wastes oxygen, rather than using that oxygen to burn the remaining propane.
This rule doesn't really apply to hybrids.
Smoke also isn't very good for flame front propagation.
I imaging there are far worse things you could do. I mean really, if you screw up, you burn your hand. Big deal. If the touch hole(flame) isn't huge, chance are your hand will be fine in a week or two.that is one of the most dangerous things you can do with a combustion gun...
Of course, touch holes aren't very efficient, but they aren't really that dangerous so long as you watch what you are doing.
