ive seen those guys one the discovery chanel. its pretty interesting. thats accually a medium sized gun compared to what some of those guys have. its funny because when they interview them most of them say stuff like "i got all the parts from the junk yard, i think i spent about $200 on it..." yet their cannons are huge.

Well alot of them do, because it's true. now, I know it doesn't have much to do with Large Calibre Pumpkin Chuckers but it proves the point.
What they would be spending that on is a valve and all of the working parts ETC.

Hmmmm....
Maybe all of us could go looking in junkyards around us, then collaborate on some plans for a giant 8" porting piston valve, gather up all the parts, and ship them somewhere in Oklahoma where we can all gather in the night and assemble it.
Then, it's just a matter of taking the bed off an old F-250 and mounting the cannon to it. Maybe make a modular barrel and support structure so you can drive the truck under bridges.
But think about it.... it's feasible. I see all sorts of huge steel fittings/pipe whilst at the junkyard. All we'd need would be a welder and then somebody for the ASME testing required before taking it to the Pumpkin Chunkin place.
I don't have an old F-250 to donate, sadly. I do have an old F-150 though. I guess it depends on the size as to what vehicle we mount it on. I suppose we could choose to mount it on a trailer, but what's the fun in that? There's none of the "get in and drive the sucker somewhere" factor.

I think 8" SCH-40 steel pipe welded together by a bunch of rednecks with a homemade valve slapped in for good measure qualifies it as a warhead... you?
i'd reckon so, but that wouldn't stop anyone. you'd be fairly amazed at what one could find at a junkyard, pressure chambers and all kinds of neat stuff that you could build these out of.
a suitable barrel would be the hydraulic piping on a giant front end loader or similar shaft from another piece of heavy equipment.
pumpkins aren't very uniform, and are hollow. I would put my money on a rifled casaba mellon barrel.

I'd throw my money at a large piece of aluminum or steel tubing, (not pipe!), supported by a wire-rope structure. You've gotta have plenty of room for the projectile to accelerate, especially if you are using something like a spring-loaded or rammed ball or butterfly valve.
Rifled barrel sounds good, though. Don't know how you'd accomplish such a thing on such a large scale, though.
