Whoa, I just shot a AA battery at a piece of drywall.

It went right through at 50psi.

simple and effective :)

Now all we need is an explosives expert and we can make mini HEAT rounds
These days it's EFP warheads that seem to be all the rage but again, that's beyond the scope of discussion of this forum.

For those of us without Nova's impressive facilities, here's a different solution for APFSDS:

Image

The round is basically a nail with its head cut off and three thin (1/64") plywood fins glued on with araldite. The fins are the same diameter as the barrel in order to steady the round. To make sure it's built correctly and assist mass production, it should be constructed inside a section of barrel tubing, with a jig to ensure consistent positioning of the fins at 120o to eachother. Since its self-supporting, the only sabot it needs is a flat disc that can be cut from foam, balsawood etc.

I did something like jsr posted but i used 1/8 vinyl sheet for the sabot. and it works great. nail are now mysteriously embedded in my driveway.

1/4" steel?
In my absence I have been working on my cannon to meet such a feat.
I plan on using a blow dart as ammo(modified of course) and a 1" barrel.
The chamber is complete as is the fuel meter.

Nova, what cannon are you going to be using?

Old topic but underappreciated design.

Maybe make a stronger steel/metal version?

1/4" steel plate is REALLY difficult to shoot through. I tried with a 1/4" diameter steel dart once, but the point became completely flat and the rod bent more than 180 degrees. Next attempt will be with a 30 gram tungsten carbide dart at ~2000 fps.

Yeah I read your old topic about that, where will you be getting that tungsten?
How will you shape it into the dart you want? (since tungsten is super hard)

Pic of a dart i made, fired, lost, found :D I did a test shot from my .50 cal mini combustion and failed to find the dart, i found it today :P This will be fired from my Hybrid at a 6x mix, with sabot. Think it will pierce 6mm plate steel?
The object behind the dart is my old 9mm design, the new one is 4.5mm.

Edit: Sorry, the tail is made from a syringe plunger, the mid section mild steel and the tip is a 4mm allen key.

looks a bit rough but n-i-i-i-i-ce nonetheless, very APFSDS :) what does the sabot look like?

Also, I propose using the rizla as a unit of meaurement - for example

"What's your barrel length?"

"1.5 metres"

"what?"

"Sorry, I meant 21.43 rizlas"

:D

Very funny indeed :D I have yet to make the sabot, i tried to make a design like the anti tank but my lathe can only hold 8mm dia, that design will have to go to my 33.7mm combustion

Share your design for a simple sabot? This is a small "flachette"!

The simplest way of doing it would be to have a one piece cup sabot.
