This is my large pneumatic. 330ci 4" sch40 chamber with a Toolies' style piston. Uses a modded 1" sprinkler valve to exhaust the pilot chamber. I wouldn't trust a cell core 4" clean out cap with 1" hole in it to hold 100psi so I made my own end cap.

Seen with Universal Breech Loader (UBL) and Tennis ball Barrel Mounted

A Toolies's style piston built for a 4" chamber with a 2" barrel port. Lower piston body is a 3" ABS end cap with mold marks sanded off and exactly 2 layers of duct tape. Threaded rod is 5/16"-18. See close up picture for explanation of upper piston body. All held together with nylon nuts.

This is a close-up of the upper piston body of my Toolies' style piston in the STAG5. The valve guide is made from 1/32" 22ga steel sheet metal. Upper piston body is made from 5/16" washers, custom fender washers (3/4" SAE washers with 3/8" washers JB Welding in the middle as spacers,) 1/8" sheet metal, and 3/16" rubber gasket material. All held together with 5/16" nylon nuts.

This is my fill setup. Built so it can be used with any quick disconnect fitted compressed gas supply. This way I can use the expensive ball valve ($8 for a 1/4" NPT valve!!) on multiple cannons, yet also keep the air hose with the standard female quick-disconnect. I also love the 50' recoil air hose.

Nice cannon, although I can't say that I understand the piston assembly and how it works. Do you think you could explain it a bit?

Usually refered to as a Toolies style piston because I think Toolies was the first to introduce the concept to the spudtech comunity. http://my.freeway.net/~toolies/ has a couple diagrams of how it is setup internally. It is the same concept as a coaxial piston gun, but rather than exending the barrel to the back of the chamber, you extend the sealing surface of the piston to the front of the chamber while keeping the actual piston at the back.

very cool gun. I was looking at the link that clide posted. I was wondering what kind of cup to use. Obviously it has to be plastic, but how thick and flexible does it need to be?
Thanks

hmm i'd say just try different cups, if one doesnt work you can always take it apart and use a different one

not the red ones or blue ones you use at parties. You know, the disposible plastic ones. I suggest you make the chamber 4" in diameter, and use a 3" endcap sanded around the edges just enough to fit into the pipe.

ok, nice, I'll try that out, and see how it works. Thanks. Another quick question. In a lot of diaphram guns and piston guns, people use a thick rubber, hard material. What is this material and where do I get it?

Thanks
Mitch

You can use any type of rubber that will make a good seal against the end or your barrel (or chamber in a chamber-sealing piston). Bike inner tube is common as are neoprene washers which can be bought at home depot or lowes.
