im have a new marble pneumatic cannon and was wondering " how much PSI can you pump into Sch40 Pvc safely?". my dad is a saftey freak and needs proof about how high it will hold.

Usually if you want to stay safe dont go over 100psi. Most pvc is rated to at least 200 so anywhere in the low 100s is ok.

I usually pump mine up to 120 because I can,:) but anywhere above that I get afraid.

well what size is your pipe and if your using a sprinkler valve most top out at 125 psi but it really dependes on your valve and it ususally says on ur pipe how much psi it can handle and if it dost=nt say well then its proly not pressure rated

i thought that the psi on the pipe was something like 220 psi but i dont believe that for one second and i have never heard on someone going up that highon pvc.

people dont usually go up that high because most of the compressors people have go a max of aroung 120. but yeah pvc can hold 220 but if it says that its the max so stay safe and dont get too close to it.

I am surprised at some of the people's ignorant answers. The pressure rating of pvc depends on the diameter of the pipe and the manufacturer. I've bought two different brands of 1/2" pipe that had different pressure ratings printed on them. The one with the higher pressure was rated to 600psi. Then you have higher diameter pipes like the 3" pipe I used on my latest gun which is rated to about 220 I think. Just look on the pipe to see what's printed, and if nothing is and it doesn't say nsf-pw, then don't be putting any pressure in it and get new pipe. Also you can tell your dad the pvc manufacturers have to put huge safety margins on those ratings. Somebody even said that the pipe has to be able to hold twice as much as it's rated to. Now don't go putting 300 psi in some pipe, be sure to stay at least 50 psi under what it's rated for just to be safe and please your dad.
