k so now that i have a fridge compressor, and i'm totaly pumped about it!!!!!! I'm about ready to tear my hair out trying to decide what caliber to make it. I"M mostly debating between a 6mm bb and a larger, marble type caliber. its just been so annoying that i'm not sure what i want to do yet. I like the 6mm cuz i could get higher velocities and use it in airsoft battles, but i like the marble caliber for pure damage. both these would be sniper like, but i would like some input, and why you chose that, thanks

k i've changed it to a MARBLE/DART CALIBER, NOT JUST MARBLE

6mm,for me, who says a 6mm can't do damage? Have you tried 6mm ball bearings at 800 fps? fun fun fun :) Im building a similar launcher since I now have a shocky, .12g bb at 400psi here I come :D

That really depends on what you want. Marbles are varied in size so if you get a tight bore then you will most likely need to filter out the marbles or else you'll get one jammed down the barrel.

BB's are cheaper and molded better but have much less desirable ballistics characteristics.

Design the gun how you like, then fit a caliber to it. Don't try and build the gun around a projectile. If at all possible make it with different barrels and try them out. See what you like to shoot.

LOL welcome on board.. It good to hear that there are more and more users of fridge compressors.... would you post some pics ?

I have the same problem as you do... I am not sure what would be better a 16mm barrel for marbles or a smaller caliber....

marble barrel would be good since marbles are quite cheap and also I could easier find other ammo as well. however at the same time it would consume more air for each shoot plus I would have to buy bigger QEV than the one I have now (1/2") to get full power for that size of barrel.... finally marbles are varied in their size and they weight only 5 g each so they have worse ballistic characterisitic than for example 1/2" ballbearings ( 8 g each)....

I am trying to find some caliber in between 6mm and 16mm...right now I am inclined to use 10mm barrel for shooting 10mm ballbearings ( they weight about 3.5 g each, which would give more power than steel 6mm BBs (0.8g))

Big Bore is better, That's why this is a cannon forum. Small bore is for JO's IMO. Unless it's a firearm or something. :P 8)

BTW I got a sig!!! :D

I'd go w/ airsoft.
IMO, playing airsoft is MUCH MUCH MUCH more fun than just sitting at home blowing stuff up w/ marbles.

or make two barrels, one within the other, saw it somewhere before on something i think was called the anti-material rifle, you make two barrels, then sink the smaller one inside the larger one and have the smaller one screw into the inside of the large barrel, that way you have options on which barrel you want to use while on the field, i wonder if they make a 16mm airsoft bb...

How is airsoft more fun? That would be very interesting if you could even possibly explain that.

Besides who said sit at home and blow stuff up with marbles?

How can you have more fun with toy plastic peas, atleast use real peas c'mon. 8)

BTW even if you did want to shoot G@y airsoft, you can shoot like way more from a larger bore right?

EDIT: WTF happened to my sig??? Seriously.?

Well, you can't exactly shoot people with a marble gun can you? And, if you ramp up the fps, airsoft does HURT. Its funny to watch people's reactions to getting shot. @Poland Spud: LMAO!! Mod not like you mouthing or something?

Hydra,... um thanks for your opinions... but dont be rude to everyone else.

and i dont think i could do interchangeable very easily, well maybe, because im building this gun into another design.

POLAND_SPUD, i'll see if i can get pics up for you, its not working yet, i just got it yesterday, and promptly got my mom mad by having it tip over in the van and it somehow spilled a bunch of yellow oilish liquid out of the freon pipe, but i got it cleaned up.

I'll try and get pictures soon. It's a super weird setup- it has 3 pipes other than the freon pipe, so i have to hook it up to electricity and see what the deal is with that..
