Well last night when I was blotto with my parent's, I saw something that might work... We polished off a few bottles of wine and see a few corks I thought MIGHT fit... With a bit of light sanding in the shed after more beers, I had a perfect piston after 10 min.
...More piss!

Not to mention using a cannon under the influence. It's one thing if you hurt yourself out of stupidity, but it is completely different if you hurt someone else out of stupidity.

How much does the cork compress because that may cause a problem with the gun in the future.

Haha I've made many a gun under the influence and never had a problem. I've got enough logic to stop sanding/grinding when I feel a bit too full and I absolutely never shoot a marble when I'm pissed, it's with plastic bb's out of my bb gun at very low pressures, and the gun is never aimed in anyone's direction.

Careful that the cork doesn't have air bubbles in it, it might compress a lot when you pressurise. What size pipe does it fit in?

It's a nice fit actually. I got the gun working pretty well. It does compress a tiny amount but not enough to worry. I'll make myself a new piston sometime next week.

i know this is off topic, but i'll give it a go:
If you are, er, intoxicated, couldn't the alcohol in your stomach evaporate from your blood stream in your lungs, be exhaled, and then accidentally be set on fire. Of course you'd have to be wasted for that to happen!

Rubber stoppers also make good pistons. When they are modified slightly they can be formed into SQEV's. Super Quick Exhaust Valves are very efficient and, with rubber stoppers, easy to make.

What do you mean by a rubber stopper? Like a test tube bung? I was thinking some of the more elastic artificial corks might not even need a sealing face
