300 yards?
I am looking to achieve a distance of about 300 yards. I cant make my mind up of which one to build.
1.combustion: 3x18 inch chamber, 1.5x60 inch barrel, metered propane, fan, and stungun.
2.pnuematic: 1.5x48 inch chamber, 1 inch modified sprinkler valve, 1.25x60 barrel.
These numbers just seem to be what people use who claim they achieved 300 yards.

well, combustion would make a nice bang, but probably would be more expensive than a simple pneumatic.
idk, i'm kinda partial to pneumatics. I've always liked them better.

o yea. if the chamber:barrel ratio is right.
If you really want to get max distance you might want to make your own piston to get max flow.

300 yards is further than most people think....
Depends on your ammo...going to be tough getting a potato slug out that far with anything... Golf ball or other hard ammo very doable. Hitting a potato with enough force to get it out 300 yards tends to vaporize it.
Chamber up to 4" on your combustion and put 3 centered spark gaps in there and you'll get golfballs out way further than that.
Of course, I'm a combustion guy....

yea thats true.
could get into a huge debate on which is better, pneumatics or combustion.
if you're shooting a golf ball either one would be simple to get over 300 yards.
with a cannon that small. it really doesn't matter. Its once you get to a much larger scale the pneumatics starts overcoming combustions (unless of course you start using gunpowder.)

according to hgdt a 1 once projectile will be just short of making it. 854 feet or 284 yards.
this is based on the combustion that you explained.

ive seen a couple 300 yard shots on here, one was pitbull and his softball combustion (300 yds or real close). and i think the other one was sthorne. im sure there are lots more.

Most claims of 300 yard ranges are bogus. It is possible with a golfball but probably not possible with most other common ammos (tennis balls, spuds etc.).
Can you even see a 1.5" shell at 300 yards? I have trouble seeing a 2" spud at 100 yards, at 300 yards the shell appears 9x smaller than at 100 yards.

What pressure were you planning on using for a pneumatic? And a 2" sprinkler valve would be a better idea
More importantly, what were you planning as a projectile?

Well, you could freeze the potato to harden it and then turn it on a lathe to 1.5", then you get some oxygen…
If you put a piston valve on a pneumatic of those dimensions you should be throwing stuff pretty far out there. Spray your projectile with glow in the dark paint and fire a little after sunset (or shoot a flashlight) to find it.

Is she not of the age where it's convenient to know her friends?
