thousands od dollars? a few hundred if you know how to 8)

Mention its for school, and many companies will donate fairly large parts, and maybe even the capacitors if your school can accept liability (mine couldnt :( )

Is this a competition? If it is, more practical and useable projects usually recieve higher marks, even if it is simple.

I believe it could be a weapon. My freind is doing gun cleaning as his hands on thing and he got permission to bring in his step-dad's Glock.

How much do you tihnk a Tesla Coil would cost?

I like the idea but im a little low on money.

And no there is no competition in any of this. Its a grade to graduate.

And no it does not have to be real specific. My broad topic is electrical engineering. My exact topic is what i would need to do to become one. And i would then go on to explain other aspects of it.

Pulsed linear induction motor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhjbkJD9f94

I built a 3kj one for under $200

PM for pix

If funded DEFINITELY a rail gun, or a Electrothermal chemical gun

If I had a chance to compete with larda, No cost to me, plus school credit, plus getting to keep it, I'd take it in a heartbeat :D

So ive decided to a Tesla Coil for my hands on project. And instead of making a new thread i decided to bump this one up with a few questions.

I know i can get transformers from neon signs and old furnaces and microwaves. But aside from that what else are they in? Its ok if its not that high of voltage. I have a few capacitors right now and i just want to find a transformer so i can get one together jsut to make sure i can build it before i spend money on a large one.

a MOT isnt a good idea, too high current for a small coil.
For a small coil, a ZVS driven flyback (from CRT moniters and TV's) is good.

Post a topic on 4hv.org, you will get way more helpfull information.
