Back in 2007 two car bombs failed to explode outside a London nightclub. The bombs consisted of petrol and gas cannisters inside the vehicle.

On one the ignition device (lightbulb filament/matchheads triggered by a mobile phone ringing) failed to work. The other did work but failed to ignite the gas and petrol fume filled car because the mixture was too rich.

Good thing the attempted bombers were merely a neurologist and a mechanical engineer and not spudgunners

Oh and here's the article I picked it up from.

Haha! Thats kind of sad... well happy for the airport.
I thought most people knew about fuel to air ratios, I knew about them way before I even got interested in spudding.

Does anyone see the point in trying to harm helpless people? I mean really, what are you going to gain from it?

I don't think I need to point out that neither of these would have done f*ck all in terms of actually harming/killing people, unless they were close enough to get singed by the very short-lived fireball.

Good thing these "terrorists" are so ridiculously stupid, or we'd be in real trouble...

I mean, seriously, a car full of petrol fumes outside the target building is the best they can come up with? I suppose we can thank Hollywood for at least one thing...

What you gain is power and people are afraid of you. People have their own reasons.

These terrorists ordered a truck load of fail, and it arrived right on time.
Faulty ignition, poor fuelling, lame ass explosive, wrong positioning of cars...

About the only thing they did right was not mix their triggers with the TV remote.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

it's like newbie spudders that spray 10 seconds of fuel into a tiny CC and wonder why it doesn't fire, or shoots the projectile a few yards out the tube.

the first time i lit my spud gun, it sounded like a rifle, split a 2"x6" piece of wood 20 yards away, and scared the hell out of my dad's neighbors. i used 3 seconds of static guard in a 99CI CC. needless to say, i use hearing protection after that.

No skills are required to be a suicide bomber. The bomb maker has to have some degree of experience and knowledge and it's not generally the bomb maker that kills themselves otherwise you end up with a distinct shortage of bomb making experience for the next time unless your group is aiming to be a one hit wonder.

This was one of the start from scratch DIY bombing groups which was why it was so generally crap.

The first attempt was the petrol soaked cars filled with open gas cylinders outside the nightclub which could have worked if they knew some important details in making a fuel air explosion but as it was they didn't hence the damp squib it was.

The second attempt was basically the above but personally driving it into the Glasgow Airport terminal and probably hoping to get it to explode (they didn't know why the car bombs failed the previous day presumably) but it merely caught fire when they set it alight.

They hadn't even checked that it was possible to drive a vehicle in and got stopped by bollards while the jeep sat there like a burning lemon.

Ah well, -1 to the terrorists.

building a bomb is one thing - but I don't think that succesfully carrying it to the target is easy...

anyway... I am suprised that they have chosen such faulty method of ignition

They weren't the same losers, as the 9/11 hijackers were part of an organised group, but even the organised losers didn't seem to realise what an extreme longshot it was that either of the towers would fall. If only the dumbest and craziest of us weren't so damned lucky...
