Do I Really Need Primer

I am currently building my own P.A.C. 5. The supplies aren't exactiy cheap. I want my gun to look decent and a dont want the purple primer stains all over the place. Do I really need the purple primer. The Cement I have is clear and i would like to use just that if it is okay.

Use primer. You can get clear primer also.

the only clear primer i can get is a Quart and costs $15

Never attempt to glue PVC without the primer it is a critical part of the gluing process! It does two things: first it cleans the pipe and get ride of any contaminants that may affect the joint. Second it helps start the chemical reaction that causes the pipe to fuse together. If you don't use it the joint will almost certainly fail. If you don't like the purple mess I suggest that you just paint you gun.

If you can't find the clear primer, try painting the gun.
ive never painted b4 either.

i wrap a towel around the pipes and wrap the towel in duct tape to keep that purple primer from making big streaks down my pipes. then i just slide the towel to where it needs to be.

that's prolly the best way to do it along with being extra careful.

are cement and primers for sch. 80 EZ to find?

You can use the same primer/glue for sch. 80 that you do for sch. 40

thanks carlbelcher and my glue works for 2" sch 80! i can make a hybrid now, but i need to study mixes a bit more i alreagy have a design made in my head.

hand held hybrid maybe? lol

like spudinators mauler, except a carrying design that won't kick ur ass.

spudstuff, if u already glued it and if its a combustion, just use it tomorrow when ur 24 hrs is up and see what happens.
worst case scenario, a fitting will blow off and your arm might get an instant sunburn, big whoop.

i think you'll be okay though (if its combustion). the first spudguns were beer cans duct taped together remember?

You dont need to use primer if you sand the surface of the pipe away and the inside of the fitting, so its rough.

I would still use primer. It helps to start the solvent welding process.

i'd like to know where you heard that, i'd also like to know how sanding softens the PVC to prepare it to be fused with the fitting

Spudstuff, make sure its primer not cleaner. Theres a difference, and one you might not want to waste your money on. Primer ultimatly isnt needed, although you risky a aweful lot just so that your gun looks "clean". Ive charged pneumatics up to ~120 PSI that were only glued and not primered, in no way base your future plans of my doings...

NEVER EVER SAND PIPE OR FITTINGS UNLESS ABSOLUTALY NECESSARY!

Sanding reduces the surface area that touches the other fitting. You want a closer fit, not a loose one.
