MKV to me stands for a non-human way to take care of a room full of bad guys in about 20 seconds or so. Deployment would be a bummer, you would need advance knowlage of where and when a room full of bad guys will be there. Plant it before hand, then time activate or remote.
All those shots going off is bound to gettum all. As for stopping a inbound missle, not even a lousie scud! IMO.

I agree with VH_man, I originally thought they were supposed to be guns because of the metnion of 'shooting' things down. Then I look at it again and watched and im pretty sure they're just stabilizers.Jrrdw... Im pretty sure those were simply rocket thrusters, Not gunshots.

If those weren't gun shots, what a waste of engineering! Due to the propulsion system I see the need for control. It doesn't have near the lift to intercept a inbound even if it could be out fitted with a missile stopping mechanism.
With the current configuration it would have to be huge to meat the need, we all ready have intercepter missiles to due the job. What a waste!

I've not read up on this particular one but there's two ways to go about downing a missile up that high.john bunsenburner wrote:In space it would hover any ways...Why would it need that engine thing then?
1) you use an explosive warhead
2) you hit it either with a projectile or the counter missile itself.
Either way a cluster of those killbots are released from a main rocket once in orbit and they each make their own way to their designated targets which is why they need a crapload of thrusters as there's no atmosphere worth a dam up there.

If I may interject.
The MKV is a missile interceptor to be used against any incoming MIRV type warheads that deploy a large number of active warheads and decoys. What this does, it it is launched atop a missile into NEO, and begins to track the targets. Once in range, it deploys it's kill vehicles (the little round bits) to hit each warhead. The ONLY reason it has that monstrous motor on the bottom is for atmospheric testing in our gravitational field, as the cost of sending it into space for each test (as well as losing the prototype) makes it impractical to do all tests at NEO. ALL of our current ABMs are of the single warhead type, next to incapable of knocking down each warhead. Thus creating the need for this device.

Just one small correction; I believe the large motor on the bottom is also duplicated on the top and sides. They would be used for large, fast maneuvers in space, with fine control movements performed by the smaller pulsed thrusters. Simply put, it's very hard to make small adjustment with big motors, and very hard to make big adjustments with small motors. Other than that, Oll Korrect, sirrah.SEAKING9006 wrote:If I may interject.

While looking awesome (and VERY expensive) a frag grenade can do basically the same, but then within a split second:
Sending shrapnel or bullets in all directions.

A frag grenade doesn't have any kind of guidance. And we're talking about MASSIVE approach speeds here, too fast for the fragments to reach the target in time. Which is why kinetic kill vehicles are used at that altitude, because the force of the impact itself is enough to completely vaporize the target.

I think there's a recurring misunderstanding here. Those are rapidly pulsed rocket engines, NOT muzzle blasts.psycix wrote:Sending shrapnel or bullets in all directions.
It's not trying to shoot holes in stuff, it's trying to stay stably airborne. The fact that it manages it is no mean feat.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?
Ah I thought it also shot bullets due to the fact of "kill vehicle" and people talking about the thing clearing rooms full of bad guys....
Thanks for clearing up.
