are they faster then a modded sprinkler valve

Ball vales have very high flow but slow openign time...if you have it ram or spring operated it opens faster and thus decreases opening time.

so they are better then a modded sprinkler valve? if so were would you buy themjohn bunsenburner wrote:Ball vales have very high flow but slow openign time...if you have it ram or spring operated it opens faster and thus decreases opening time.
You can purchase a BRASS ball valve at the same place you purchased the copper. Load it on a spring, pump it up to its full potential, and break some $#!+.

how do you make a springhubb017 wrote:You can purchase a BRASS ball valve at the same place you purchased the copper. Load it on a spring, pump it up to its full potential, and break some $#!+.

yea i was kinda in a rush i meant ot say how do you make a spring loaded ball valve?rp181 wrote:lol, you dont make a spring.... you but them.
A spring loaded ball valve can give more flow then a modded sprinkler of the same size.
But the sprinkler certainly opens faster unless you've got a really powerful spring or ram.
A spring loaded ball valve is just a normal ballvalve, but it is opened up by the force of a spring or maybe an elastic rubber band.
Use your creativity on how to make it.

so wats better more air flow or faster opening time?psycix wrote:A spring loaded ball valve can give more flow then a modded sprinkler of the same size.

Well you need both really.so wats better more air flow or faster opening time?
A 2" ball valve has great flow, but slow opening time.
A 1" sprinkler valve has less flow but faster opening time.
With a 10' barrel, the ball valve would perform better, but with a shorter barrel, the sprinkler valve would win.
This is because the sprinkler valve opens faster, but if you have a longer barrel, the opening time of the ball doesn't matter as much as the projectile is in the barrel for longer. But if you have a short barrel, by the time the ball valve is half open, the projectile would've already left the barrel.
A burst disk is the best of both worlds, fast and great flow. Only problem is replacing it each shot and finding suitable disk material.
Well, burst disks may have near NO opening time and full flow, but lets not forget the piston valve which is usually best of both worlds without replacing disks and are easier to trigger.MrCrowley wrote:A burst disk is the best of both worlds, fast and great flow. -Just as fast as a sprinkler
-Just as good flow as a ballvalve
MrCrowley is right about the short or long barrel thing.raptorforce wrote:so wats better more air flow or faster opening time?
Note that opening time actually means "not full flow during that time"
On a short barrel, a slow opening valve could not feed its full flow to the barrel resulting in a pressure drop and loss of performance.
On a long barrel, this matters less as the slow opening valve has a good flow to the barrel for most of the time; and a valve that opens fast, but can't deliver a high maximum flow would indeed lose on this one.
Sprinkler valves are kinda crappy when it comes to flow.
The air has to do 90*, 180* and another 90* turn to pass though, and I am also worried about the diaphragm position.
A 3/4" QEV has the about same flow as a 1" sprinkler!
Now sprinkler valves still rock out above ballvalves unless your barrel is REALLY long. This is because the slow opening time of a ballvalve is crappier then crappy. On most barrels the ballvalve wont even be half open, and that has severe consequences on the flow it can deliver.
Note that besides a long barrel, the weight of the projectile is just as important for determining flow vs opening time.
The only thing that matters is the time that the projectile is in the barrel.
Longer barrels make up for this, but heavier projectiles also do.
