How To: Know When Your Soda Bottle Chamber Is About To Blow
thats what I was thinking, and besides, drano bombs dont actually explode so much as pop, they tear the bottle eventually, and make it fly away, theres never any actual damage done to anything.

It is particularly stupid to build drano bombs becasue they are filled with some sh** used to drain pipes... not because they explode (but yeah that's also dangerous)

pop,'splode, tomato, tomoto.....
Yes, I agree, the stuff in drano is EXTREMELY bad for you, we always threw the bottles far away and didn't go near the area for a good few minutes untill all the fumes had drifted away, but it stands that chemicals aren't going to blow your thumb off, at worst, the explosion could propel the contents towards you, giving you chemical burns.

Did you think that maybe it went off in his hands? I've seend dry ice bombs cut peoples hands open. If these drano bombs release a similar amount of energy, I could see them cutting open someones thumb pretty bad, probably not through the bone, but enought to do a lot of tissue damage.but it stands that chemicals aren't going to blow your thumb off, at worst, the explosion could propel the contents towards you, giving you chemical burns.
Yea, I'm pretty sure it's about the same amount of energy, and if not in his hands, then I do not know where it would be, in such a way as to "blow his thumb off" maybe in some freak scenario, but drano bombs and dry ice bombs are similar, since both burst at the point where a bottle fails... then all energy created after that is not important, since all pressures go straight to the atmosphere.
EDIT: I looked back at his post, and he is speaking of BLEACH bombs, I did not know what those were, so I looked them up, They involve 1: GASOLINE 2: BLEACh 3: A GLASS JAR...
clearly we are talking about varying levels of explosives....

It helps alot, but isn't critical. He walks just fine, maybe a trace of a limp last time I saw him, but what's that compared to losing the thumb on your dominant hand?(BTW, it was a fairly common practice, in the dark days of slavery, to cut off the toes of a repeat-runaway slave. It made it almost impossible to move quickly, but they usually recovered well enough to work in fields on uneven ground.) He was placing the bottle in a mailbox when it went off, which probably contributed to it blowing his thumb off, but even without being half enclosed, a plastic bottle has enough energy in it to do serious damage, and when you combine that with splattering everything in the vicinity with toxic and even corrosive chemicals, it elevates the whole proceeding into the realm of the monumentally stupid.MrCrowley wrote:Why would they remove his big toe? Isn't your big toe critical to the magical balancing art of standing up straight without falling over or something like that?

If after reading these quotes you don't get why drano bombs are more dangerous than ice bombs then I don't know what is wrong with youbut it stands that chemicals aren't going to blow your thumb off, at worst, the explosion could propel the contents towards you, giving you chemical burns.
seriously do you expect that everyone one this site always use eye protection ? don't count on that... so DO NOT write about drano bombs here...
even if you use eye protection (doubt it's true if you can't understand why drano bombs are inherently more dangerous than dry ice bombs) you never know who is going to read it and what he is going to do with this knowledge....

Nope. Plastic bottle, bleach tablets, and some other ingredients. It's a pressure bomb, not an explosive. I do know of the bleach/gas/etc combo, but that's not what he was doing.sputnick wrote:Yea, I'm pretty sure it's about the same amount of energy, and if not in his hands, then I do not know where it would be, in such a way as to "blow his thumb off" maybe in some freak scenario, but drano bombs and dry ice bombs are similar, since both burst at the point where a bottle fails... then all energy created after that is not important, since all pressures go straight to the atmosphere.

akybray uidflay..... For those fluent in pig latin.... and it gets hot enough to start fires when mixed with the previously mentioned chemicals...Daltonultra wrote:Nope. That's some nice footage.
How are you liking that new camera?
They did this on the show "time warp" with three taped together. They put it in a fish tank and the shock wave shattered the glass. I guess you could use this as a "depth charge" for fishing scratch that, redneck fishing.

Camera is working out pretty good, I had to use digital zoom when editing the video because I had placed the camera so far away as I didn't want it to get hit by a flying bottleThat's some nice footage.

But next time i'll place it closer and use optical zoom.
You could make a plexiglass box for your camera so you don't have to worry about shrapnel.
