The walls on Sch 10 would be too thin to thread.
HOWEVER....
I've done some more peaking around....
The OD of 1.5" pipe is 1.9".
The ID of 2" Sch 80 pipe is 1.93".
Anybody else see possibilities there?
I'm thinking a stainless steel Sch 10 barrel placed inside a 2" Sch 80 nipple. Wouldn't have to be long. Maybe 6" worth. Just enough to give some stability. A thin weld around the end and voila, a 1.683" ID barrel that's nice and stiff and has a 2" NPT mount.
Similar could be done with the aluminum, of course, but I'm thinking that may be a bit tougher to find appropriate materials (read: Sch 80 aluminum pipe).

I assume you mean 2" sched 80 nipple. Sounds like a great idea to me.D_Hall wrote:inside a 2" Sch 10 nipple.

I'd love to see a cannon by your hand D-Hall.
I don't believe I've ever seen any.

They typically aren't anything too fancy. Usually they're purpose built to prove one point or another. That said....Brian the brain wrote:I'd love to see a cannon by your hand D-Hall.

The below was built almost exclusively to prove out GGDT's algorithms, but then, the webpage discusses that.

...Whereas the above gun is actually what inspired me to write GGDT. It was a simple launcher for firing a custom projectile for paintball scenario games that I was working on with another individual. This projectile is now fired by the Eclipse. File that one away in your "it's a small world and we're all connected" file.
edit: The projectile....

That's almost identical to SDR 21 1.5"...sounds great. You're toying around with this has given me some new ideas, actually with the aluminum versions of this stuff.D_Hall wrote:Stainless Sch 10 pipe arrived today.
Not bad. Not as good as I'd hoped, but not bad.
Measured ID is 1.702.
Measured OD is 1.903.
Golf ball definately fits. Not perfect, but certainly acceptable.

Update....
Based on the fit of the 3' long piece of stainless, I went ahead and ordered a 6' length.
Today I tried to put a golf ball through it. It wouldn't go. For a moment I was really pissed. Then I realized that there were some pretty significant burs around the end of the pipe and figured I'd file 'em off to see what happened.
When I was done....
...I could put the ball in the pipe but it wouldn't move. It was stuck. But stuck is a relative term...
...It was still loose enough that I could put my mouth to the pipe and blow the ball through it.
OMG.
This is gonna be great!
Current plans:
1) A single shot pneumatic that GGDT indicates will yield 625 fps. This gun is virtually finished at this point.
2) A 10X hybrid. Most details are still up in the air, but I have some 5" ID, 1" wall thickness pipe that should work nicely for a chamber. The goal is Mach 1.25 or better.

Good news, that's awesome, a high pressure alternative to SDR 21 1.5"
Always good to hear about your experiments D_Hall. I'll cry when I see a golf ball shattering at Mach 1.25. I hope you follow through. I don't think I've even heard of a golf ball going over 800 fps.

OK that gave me goose bumps just thinking about the possibilities. That sounds like an even better fit than SDR 21....much better.D_Hall wrote:It was still loose enough that I could put my mouth to the pipe and blow the ball through it.

@ King_Tater: 800 fps is relatively easy...attainable with a low grade hybrid. Mach 1.25 is another matter entirely, but very doable.
GGDT puts my pneumatic in the 900+ range...King_TaTer wrote:Good news, that's awesome, a high pressure alternative to SDR 21 1.5"

That sounds like some pretty neat pipe D_hall!
Can't wait to see the results.

Well there you go, I have now heard of a golf ball going over 800 fps. Didn't say it was impossible

Something I'd like to hear is a GB going supersonic.
And with hearing, I mean the supersonic crack, in addition to the muzzle blast.
