Neither.

I picked up spud guns because I was (for a brief period in my late 20s) into paintball scenario games.

With the use of a load cell (google it).
The engine/booster/rocket/alientechnology actually looks pretty small, is the fuel contained in the aparatus or is seperate?
That one is roughly 7' in diameter and 15' long. Weight is on the order of 20 tons. Whether you want to call that small or large, I leave to you.

Shuttle engine test??? Thats my guess.
uh... I kinda figure it would be a ballistic missile engine of some type, not a shuttle. If it was an actual shuttle engine (not a booster), I don't think those cement(?) barricades would still be there afterward.

Oh, so it was a chemical rocket? Not liquid oxygen/Nitrousoxide/whatever.

Thats a big load cell. I am getting one that is 8" long and 5" diameter, and it only goes up to 20,000 Pounds.

You might be surprised. A lot depends on construction, etc. In other words....

I've got a load cell that's probably 12" in diameter and 18" long and it's good to 50,000 pounds.

I've got another load cell that's probably 6" in diameter and 12" long and it's good to 500,000 pounds.

Go figure.

It turns out it was changed to one that can actually measure dynamic force's, so now its 5,000 pounds, and like 1 inch in dia =) The smaller one is piezoelectric tech.

Not exactly a desk job, eh? I'll bet you rarely dread having to come into work.

On the subject, what sort of degrees do you hold that enabled you to get such a fine job?

I'd do it for free if I won the lottery and there were to be layoffs or something.

Nothing special, just a BSME.

Why do most of us have a "big red button" fetish.
Ironically, big red buttons are mostly used as emergency brakes/shutdowns instead of start buttons.

That's what I was referring to.

I'm sure there are more. :)

Man that looks like a lot of fun.

Would they happen to be looking for any new engineers? I'm graduating in May with a BSME. A job like that would be amazing.

We're hiring as fast as we can train the newbs. Seriously, we've been hiring 100ish engineers every year for the past 5-7 years.

D, remember "The Pipe Dream" cannon? I remember that beast back on spud tech. Did you ever get anything new on it? I know that there's a thread around here somewhere on it, But since this thread is about you, I might as well ask.
Why do I try to make a relevant post?

D_hall isn't supposed to discuss it directly, but I guess I can (so long as he has no objections)...

To my knowledge, it was funded and scheduled several months ago, and is under construction as we speak. The original dimensions haven't changed too drastically. I believe the barrel is 40' x 29" diameter(?).

Planned mix is somewhere between 1.5 - 2x, using a manometric meter, 7 or 9 gaps, and presumably some type of fan system.

There will be a press release of some sort after it's built and tested, at which point he'll be able to share all the details.
Look in "hybrid cannon discussion" for his old posts.
