Hi everyone. Long time lurker here. Just recently decided to register as a user because I come by here so much. Just wanted to say you all have some great ideas and much of what i see here inspires my own work.

Just some info on me. I am a major gearhead. I am big into hot rods (nostalgic ones mostly) pinstriping, and drag racing.

I work as a consultant and PC support technician during the day, I also work as a commercial designer and illustrator.

In the past, Ive worked in radio, in media production, as a comic-book illustrator, and web designer (no website currently though, so don't ask)

I was bitten by the spudding bug a few years ago, but I tinker and build all sorts of interesting things as a hobby. it's good to be amongst people like youselves and just thought I'd say hi.

I'll be sure to post some of my projects here very soon (like, in the next couple days or so)

Hmm, though i am not really a big fan of the " hey here i am i supplyed nothing but will introduce myself anyhow" idea, nice to have you onboard, as asked before, any cannons? I woudl like to know what your tinkering has supplyed up until now.

As for those who ask about my spudding projects; they'll see them soon enough, in the appropriate areas of the forum, as soon as I have some time to take pictures of them.

My first gun is a copper pneumatic. currently with 1/2", 24" long Barrel with 1" chamber piping put together in the barrel over chamber fashion. It uses a spring-actuated 1/2'' Ball valve that's triggered by a steel leaf-spring sear. divided chamber for different shooting roles (small chamber for plinking and less pumping, big chamber for destroying things. I've integrated a 300 PSI shock pump as it's primary air source. But schraeder placement allows for running off one of my 12 volt compressors or another air source.

Yes, I know pistons are better. I wanted it to be low maintainance, and the ballvalve was the best flow option. It's also easily available and switched out when they wear down.

I've used it primarily as a test bed to develop ideas. My next gun will be QEV based (I just discovered my local Fastenal has some nice ones) I just started on it, and will post about it when it's together enough to actually fire something. Still working out some design details so it'll be a while on my 2nd project.

I also have a few paintball guns and bb/pellet guns and that I've modded. that's pretty much what got me started in this whole thing.

jeepkahn, no problem. Don't feel bad because of your age, I haven't noticed much of a line in terms of age in this hobby. BTW, I'm 35, who you calling old? I prefer the term "Seasoned"

I'll try to get a post on my first pneumatic as soon as I'm able. Gotta help the missus out for a while!

I'm a little more seasoned than you at 51 and I navigate through the "youngins" around here fairly well. Actually, age is very rarely brought up or much of an issue among the members. The really younger ones (age 12 or less sometimes) sometimes have comprehension and communication issues, primarily from just lack of exposure to stuff in the real world. Just keep in mind the diverse ages accommodated around here when you communicate. Your gearheadedness usually lends itself very well to the spudding hobby..

I too have an extensive IT career background. I've seen a lot come and go in my almost 30 years at it. It still helps pay the bills along with my sound and DJ work.

Pistons in my experience if built correctly aren't high maintenance, or at least tinkering with a ball valve.

From your description it looks like you could replace the ball valve with a piston or qev. You do realize a qev IS a manufactured piston valve don't you?

Could you post a picture of your gun. It sounds like a very well thought out gun.On second thought why not post it in the showcase?

I too am from Wisconsin (Eau Claire Area). I also have an IT background and I'm currently in school for my IT Programming Associates Degree. I also am a Freelance Graphic Designer and Web Designer. My main goal on spudfiles is to create innovative designs that help extend what we know as spuddin. I also enjoy incorperating the designs for Airsoft use.

I like it when people introduce themselves in topics like these, however we as a forum generally don't like the attitude of "you didnt have to read it". There are many active members that make it a point to read most if not all the posts(myself included) and though I do not think of it as a waste you do have to realize that people do spend the time to read the posts to see if there is any information they can gather from the post and sometimes people don't like it if the posts do not contain any actual information they can gather.

So in all sense for people like me, we do have to read it.

With that said, I enjoyed reading your post and I can't wait to see some of your projects and designs.

Im a bit of a gearhead aswell also with interest in the IT field, cant list such an exiting job record as you cauz im only 18.
