Ok, I was just messing around today, and decided to try something new. I know something like this has been done before, but I thought I'd show you, and prove how powerful and cheap these things can be on short range.

Ok, basically the shell is a piece of normal paper, I used scrap paper to save money and trees :D I just wraped the paper into a tube, and put it into a short piece of pvc pipe the same size as the barrel. I took a piece of scotch tape (in the picture I used masking tape). Then I folded one end of the paper tube and taped that too. I then filled the tube about 3/4 full with cut mardi gras beads (alternatley you can use bbs, airsofts, marbles for bigger guns, or watever works for you). Then just stuff the shell open end first into the breech, or closed end first down the muzzle. PUT ON A PAIR OF GOGGLES!!!! This is very important, when you have 25 little beads ricocheting around everywhere, you will want eye protection. I shot 2 shells, and the results were shocking! The first I punched a nice hole into a plastic milk carton, and the second one, I totally annhilated a beer can, this was at about 10' at 65 psi, using my 50 cal. sniper, here is a pic of what's left of the beer bottle

No doubt, this is a cheap, easy, and powerful piece of ammo, but be carefull, it can be dangerous! I'd like to hear what you think!

that is pretty nifty. you could possibly get into using paper mache if you feel ambitious.

Alright, I have built stuff like this, but I always like to make stuff mass produce able, and relatively uniform. So what I did, was took a piece of pipe that fit inside your barrel with a small gap, wrap one layer of a rectangle of paper around it with some overhang off the edge of the pipe, tape up what is over the pipe, and twist close the bottom like a sweet wrapper, take it off the pipe and you have a perfect ammo cup.

best shot shell ever. I usually fill em' with steel bb's or corn depending on my target or financial situation

no, I am dead serious. IIRC, they were used before plastic was economical. they would be rigid, easy to mass produce, and not have random tape on them.

You mean like that super thin paper? I should use that?

Ramses' comment actually gave me an idea, couldn't you just take a section of pipe, of the same diameter as your barrel, only a couple inches long, and a dowel that is a few mm's smaller than the ID of the pipe, with a rounded tip, then you fill the cup with paper like paste, like all blended up newspaper and water, fill the pipe halfway then insert the dowel to form the cavity, let it dry overnight, then have a perfect paper cup?

Might be a bit to rigid, and just form another projectile, but what do you think?

definatley doable, but one thing: back in 7th grade we had to make "globes" for geography to label. What we did was blow up ballons, then make some kind of paste out of glue and water and maybe other things like flour, I cant remember. Then we took strips of newspaper and wrapped them around the ballon. After we were done with them, the teachers let us do waht we wanted with them. Of course all of us guys took them and destroyed them......only we couldn't, at least not quickly....We had to stamp at least twice on them! But maybeI could expermiment on making a weaker paste. Whataya think?

If you fill the pipe half way, you will have a lot of overflow, but the idea is good. you could also use sawdust, shredded paper, or what ever you wanted to.
