I have thought about this a bit for a few weeks, wouldn't it be cool if someone or some people wrote The Complete Encyclopedia of Spud Guns It would have sections about all the different types of rifles, info on different types of valves, safety, designs, ammo, etc. It could have a mixture of info from the Spud Wiki and articles written by the writers. I am not really planning on working on this because I just don't have the time, but I just thought I might as well just thow the idea out there. It would be a great way to spread the word about this hobby.

Well, that would be a good idea, but the world of spud gunning changes so rapidly that the book would become obsolete really fast...

Just my two cents.

That's partly what the Spudwiki is supposed to do, but it doesn't seem to get many updates. Most of the time recently, it seems to be a result of me getting few up and blitzing a part of it to try and make it better.

Still, I've been slowly working on my own to write up a book on the subject of spudding concepts, simple through to advanced. My guess is that the way I'm writing it, it wouldn't be going obsolete very fast at all - there's parts I wrote two years ago that are still a long way from being invalidated.

However, that's a long way off. I've got a program to write before I get back on with that.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

There is the article on wikipedia which skims over the basics and there is the spud wiki for those articles anyone feels the need to expand upon.

Gas powered projectile launchers is not a completed subject, tech introduced a new kind of valve to the forum not long ago for example and every other month something new is likely to turn up.

That is true that some information will become obsolete quickly, however, I don't see a lot of the basic topics becoming obscelete very quickly. This is not computers and cell phones, I'd say at least 9.5/10 of the guns on here have setups/designs that will be around for a while. I'm not trying to say that the Spud Wiki is bad, It has a lot of great information, but it does not have the huge ammount of information in an organized fashion that a book would have. Again, I was just throwing that out there.

The Wiki linked at the top of the page is a start on most of the basics.

Again, as I said, I think the Spud Wiki is a GREAT resource, but I think the best resources ever are books, again, I don't see myself or anyone else writing this book anytime soon, but I just wanted to throw this out there.

I like books, but for old subjects that are well researched, such as geometry, books are great. In cutting edge stuff, such as advanced hybrids, BBMG, GGDT, etc, books are often obsolete when they make it to press.

Even in Geometry, 100 year old books are obsolete when they don't cover beyond basic icosahedron and advance into geodesic dome math. introduced by Buckmeister Fuller.

First dome was built in 1922, less than 100 years ago.

In a more recent context, a 5 year old book on semiconductor manufacturing design is way outdated. Same on a book on Microsoft Office.

Hmmm maybe we should set up a team to update and expand the spud wiki. I'll be there to help.
We will need to start by analyzing the wiki, setting up a list of required new pages, and setting up a list of pages that need to be rewritten/modified.
Till the day I'm dieing, I'll keep them spuddies flying, 'cause I can!

Sounds like a good idea. I can put in a page on the Quick Dump Valve by condensing the info I have on the t shirt launcher competition wiki. Let me know what is needed to get a page creation account.

That's a good idea, I just started this thread for a little idea I had, but now it may actually do some good! :D Tell me if you need my help updating the spud wiki, I have quite a bit of experience writing and proofreading.

Technician, you can click log in/create account in the right top.
From there, you can create or edit pages.

I have an account now. I have edited a page. I am unable to create a new page. :(

I edited the bottom of this page to split the piston page into 3 variations of piston ratios and compare the features of each. Let me know what you think. I am having trouble uploading photos. I am getting a rename error. Any help would be appreciated.

When I am able to create a page, I'll write up the QDV with photos and video. :)
