why does every video i go to over a year old say it was removed by the user are users just removing the video's or is there a reason this happens sorry i just thought with everyone ranting(cough..ragnarok..cough) i would get this off my chest. if you know why this happens could you tell me and if it can be fixed easily we should do it lol
Mostly because Youtube suddenly decided to block almost all copyright content (i.e. almost anything with backing music.)
It's not specific to spudgun videos - there's more than even chance that if you follow any old link to a Youtube video, it'll have been removed due to a copyright claim or the user will have removed it personally to try and avoid legal problems.
Basically, a lot of it was a choice between "Remove it yourself, or risk legal action". I, like many others, took the first option.

Nowadays they'll just silence videos with copyrighted audio tracks. At least if someone complains about it. I guess that means we'll be seeing less dissapearing videos in the future.

This is funny and sad. When you consider it, almost everything on youtube is copyrighted. Some stuff is posted with the creators permission, such as my videos.Ragnarok wrote:Mostly because Youtube suddenly decided to block almost all copyright content (i.e. almost anything with backing music.)

Often blocks of stuff are removed because the copyright owner did not post them. Someone posted them WITHOUT permission. They are then removed when asked by the rightful owner.
The solution.. Create everything in the video yourself. Don't use songs written, produced, or performed by someone else. If you do use someones work, ask and receive permission before posting.
There is a lot of stuff in something called Creative Commons. Much of it grants permission to use in derivative works (eg music sound track on your video).
http://creativecommons.org/ license info.
http://creativecommons.org/videos/a-shared-culture/ CC culture video
http://creativecommons.org/license/music How to mark and use CC music.
This movement is in response to the music industry and their hard stance on licensing music "FOR PRIVATE HOME USE ONLY" Kinda makes their stuff useless in a modern world where background music for your rad video is desirable. Sorry, not permitted. Move along.
Some Videos removed by user are removed, the sound track redone so that they are not a silent movie, and reposted as a new video. The old links are dead and need updating. On a removed by user video, check the user's page and look for the replacement. Some people just give up and leave it down.
The RIAA and copyright law is killing the music industry with this action. People don't buy music they can't use or don't hear.
