guys keep it simple.

just have a couple of main categories with a couple of fun awards like pimpmann22 suggested.

i would have these categories:
main:
-combustion
-pnuematic
-hybrid
-bbmg

xtra:
-actual weapon look alike
-ghetto
-best paint job
...whatever you can think of.

or maybe a computer genius could make a site where you look at the pictures in one category and each user can only vote once per category until there is a new election of who's launchers are the best.

either way, this sounds like alot of work for the person who sets this up.

Heres a idear’ that wouldn’t make it to much harder to moderate and create. Simple when you submit a cannon in the submission at the top of the page put “Contest Applicant”. And put a poll from 1-5 star. Of course this would only work for a persons choice award, but hey it’s a start. Yes, a user could cheat if they wanted to, but if a duct tape and soda bottle combustion starts pulling lots of 5’s, we will no something is up. Remember 5 stars are rarely given out. I would say only about 10 out of the hundreds and hundreds of guns on this site deserve such a high rating. Huse_Spud I like your attempt at making it simple, but I don’t like the idea of binding them to a “type” of gun.

exactly! everybody knows a hybrid will be the most powerful so I would compare a hybrid to other hybrids and not compare it to a pneumatic when I vote
It's all relative.
It would really help if we had a new section to post them in.That would start the competition right away.

I say this is all out of our hands anyway, the final agreement on the rules should be done by moderators and posted in sticky form. Otherwize everyone will have their own idea about the rules. Don't forget the nerf gun catagory.

Demon, nerf guns are gay, hence why we dont have a contest for such. Yea ill must likely have a final say on things, but I want you guys to generate ideas. 10 persons immagnation is alot better then my 1. But with that 10 comes a lot of dumb ideas though. Honestly the only things I will edit is something I see possibly having a conflict. Besides that im kinda trying to pick up the general opion on how things should be done, rather then my own.

Well, mabey if we look at the rules of a similar compitition, like the pumpkin chuckin compitition. WOW!! should be able to help us with that seeing as he plans on entering. That could help because we could change those rules to our own preferences.

I actually like the idea of simplifying the competition and categories. If there are too many categories, there will be a few that have like 1-2 cannons submitted... and thats no fun

I say go with huse-spud

For example, take on of his categories (pneumatic)
It could have a bunch of criteria which voters would need to consider
Examples:
1) aesthetics
2) power
3) rate of fire
4) portability
5) uniqueness (word?)
6) type of valve
7) Material used
There are many more as well

I think a moderator should create some annoncement post or something. In this post, there will be the four categories: hybrid, combustion, pneumatic, and bbmg. Under each of the categories will be criteria. This way, the best of the best will be selected.


I tried to think of a way to combine the categories... like instead of pneumatic, hybrid, combustion, and bbmg, just make ones like most powerful, best looking.... but it just did not work, for certain types of guns would undoubtledly dominate each category; while a pneumatic may (usually) be more powerful than a combustion, does that mean the most powerful combustion should be pushed aside? I think not.

I didnt like the other said method because it would limit creativeness. Say if someone wanted to win, but were scared that they would lose in a higher class so resorted to a latern sparker or something so they could win.

rmich732, I like the classes youve listed, and as it is I think its the best list yet. At least thats what I think. "Type of valve" would be the only one that I would remove from the list. I was also thinking portabilty, but now that I think about it that might generate some creativeness on its own.

After we get a refined set of rules and such I will post. Not tell then will I post.

OMG WOW, if i were to read all that i would most certainly die.

I like pimpmann's "contest applicant" idea. everyone could just go back and edit their posts if their cannons are already submitted.
but the downside is someone could sabotage another gun's chances of winning if they gave someone else's gun a one when its really a nice gun.
or they could boost their own up.

that contest would take honesty and fairness, which can be hard for some people to do when theyre sitting at their computer with noone to stop them.

a mod needs to get in charge of this contest for it to start rolling.

Or post it so that only people with special permission could rate it. Like only mods. I made up some more stuff...

Here are the classes-
Combustion-light- heavy
Pneumatic-light-heavy
Hybrid-The name says it all
BBMG- Strafer and cloud

For light and heavy on the combustion ,light would be the chamber under 3” O.D. and less than 24” long. For heavy it would be any goes. Clear PVC chambers are allowed in both.
For pneumatic light, it would be the chamber less that 3’’ O.D. and 3’ long and for heavy anything goes. Any valves may be used for both classes.

For Hybrids you can do anything and use anything.

For the BBMG class there is Strafer’s and clouds. For strafers anything goes no restrictions. And for clouds anything goes.

For the judgeing there should be a rubic. It will be in number form 1-5, 5 being the best and 1 being the worst.
Cleanness-
For a 5- Nice lines, has a super paint job/the PVC was cleaned from all stains and lettering
For a 4-Has a good paint job. The letters are still there and very little to no stains.
For a 3-Has a O.K paint job could have been better, but it still flows. All lettering is there and there is a good amount of stains
For a 2-Paintjob sucks, and there is a lots of stains.
For a 1-Paintjob sucks my nut, TONS of primer stains and it looks really bad

WOW!!!, if my gun is metal with a 3" chamber is it light or heavy although it weighs alot?

H_S, if im not mistaken this contest is to encourage the building of "new" cannons, so I dont think old cannons should be allowed.

Wow, that rubric would only qualify for a athstetic categorie.

Is is just me, or is there others that dont like the contest confining the categories to a certain type of gun? I like rmich732's ideas because those are geared more towards promoting creativity and new things, rather then confining them to the same old "types". Remeber im only going to treat my opion as highly as anyone elses.

i think the same old types are okay as long as they are judged with a criteria that demands creativity.

then from the champs of each type of gun, a reigning champion could be selected and the creator of the gun would be given the title, "Spudmaster".

New cannons definately should be the only ones allowed. If they have previously been posted on the site, they should not be allowed to be entered.

Creativity is key for sure, rmich732 has a nice idea for a list, just type of valve is not really a good catagory.
