Well, talk about the invasion of the 'friggen slingshots.. They're everywhere..
So thanks to Jorg (and Boyntonstu to an extent) I'd set out on building myself a new slingshot.
I have every piece machined (just finished at 10:20 PM..) and I'll MIG weld it together tomorrow morning. I could have got it done a bit quicker but I decided to take my time with hardened SS to make it last.
On the draw strength..no clue. It's rubber for hand spears (skinfishing), and has a nice pull strength to it. It's braced ('aint I naughty?) so I don't end up with wrist problems before 20.. I'll post build pictures tomorrow.
Anyone else been bitten by the slingshot bug? Any thoughts on ammo? Lead for density or steel for hardness?
Yay..

I was bitten by this bug about 6 or so years ago. Except, I just bought one. I used it to shoot sqwerrels* and rabbits with. I used steel ball bearings or marbles. I even played an outlaw paintball game with it.

I never thought about building one though. Good luck with yours.

I'm surprised he's made it to 287 posts without being flamed for lack of punctuation. Congratulations twizi!

I believe I have caught the bug as well. Jorg has made some interesting sling shots and I am especially interested in what boyntonstu is experimenting with. The idea of mechanical acceleration using pulleys, rubber, string, and levers is very cool. It makes me want to try different techniques out. Also It'd be cool to see Brian the brain's crossbow contraption come to life.
Haha, Yeah I gave up trying to get through to people like twizi. It's like trying to yell through a steel blast door, not happening...noname wrote:Hey me too!

Nope. It is a stabilzer, meant to reduce the shaking of the hand, steadying the weapon for better accuracy.twizi wrote:i was wondering that two maybe an ammo hold???
Makes no sense, helps very little and turns a slingshot into a boat anchor.

That made me laugh.JoergS wrote:

I've been bitten by the bug as well. A few days ago after I watched one of Joerg's videos I was motivated to fix the broken band on my slingshot. I braided a few strips of bike tire inner tube and it worked out fairly well, but it's just a temporary replacement so I don't go crazy waiting for some surgical tubing.
It's hard to soar with eagles when you're working with turkeys.
But isn't that why they put a wrist wrap on it?Nope. It is a stabilzer, meant to reduce the shaking of the hand, steadying the weapon for better accuracy.
