You can use jell-o gelatin, but follow the directions for ballistic gel...It's the same stuff, just differant recipes for differant uses... And then you can eat the damage.... It'll just be chewier than normally made jello...

Do you think wet sand would make a big difference? Sure I live few hundred meters from the beach, but I'd rather bring back a bag full of sand compared to two bag fulls if making it wet makes it more effective.

wet sand works better... it's mentioned in one of US army field manuals... I don't remember which one... something along the lines of 'basic soldier skills' or something like that and there is a chapter about fighting positions

Not Sure, but I would imagine it would make it more effective...but even dry, hi powered rifle rounds barely made it through 6", so if you could do a 10" thick box, I would reckon that it'll stop anything you throw at it...

I just need to think of something to hold the sand in. It can't be permanent (if it was a wooden box, once a round goes through the box, you can't use it again), and plastic bags might make a bit of a mess. But it seems like the only option...

edit: milk bottles...got plenty of them, disposable, shouldn't make too much of a mess using wet sand...

I realized the power of real guns when I took the Venom camping and used it along side guys with guns. I remember watching potatoes shot at 1x gracefully float down range and find their place in the hillside. And then I saw a guy shoot a small 9mm pistol. I figured small pistols were actually kind of weak until I saw how damn fast that bullet made it all the way down range. It was nearly instant and I could clearly see the huge amounts of energy that little piston had. I won't even go into the guys next to him using AR-15's and hunting rifles.

After watching the video, I think dry sand would've held up better, I think the wet sand allowed hydroshock to travel and destroy the box preventing the sand from "holding together"... But the gun that made that shot had a lil bit more energy than even Lardas Hygac...

That being said, What about the vacum cleaner???

In regards to sand, it is not universal world wide. In tropical areas the sand from shells and coral is mostly calcium. In the Pacific NW where I live there is very little calcium in the sand from shells and coral. The sand is mostly volcanic which is primary silicon dioxide. These sands have differing densities, composition, grain shape, and gran size. The lighter calcium sand would have less stopping power than an iron rich volcanic silicon oxide based sand.

Well that's good, because Auckland has about 46 volcanoes and the sand I would get from the beach closest to me has a volcano about 2km out to sea (Rangitoto) which covered the area with volcanic rock about 10,000 years ago IIRC.

Expect a video of me shooting the .303 against 8" of wood sometime in the next few hours.

'Twas shooting a stainless steel pot lid with a fishing sinker, which I did not expect it to penetrate...but it did, destroying a crappy vacuum cleaning behind my target.
