http://home.howstuffworks.com/nail-gun2.htm Wow I didnt realize nailguns were so cool. They even have combustion nail guns. These open up some real possibilities for say bb or pellet guns.

yeah, they're pretty cool, and you could probably adapt them to shoot larger things by increasing the barrel and magazine size.

i've been looking at modifying a rivet gun that uses .22 blanks to shoot rivets, into shooting bb's or something similar

Nice find on how the nail guns work. I wonder if this is where the original spudgunner came up with his idea. Ive shot both air and combustion nail guns and they shot regular nails and staples about 40 yds and if you turned up the air pressure on the air compressor i bet it would shot even farther. I think i would be hard to mod it unless the other ammo you were using was the size of the nail that was supposed to go to the gun. If you could get one to work that would be awesome.

If you want a gun with a round clip look for a roofing nailer (they have round clipsso they dont catch on anything and are more compact). My dad has 5 air guns and one palm nailer and wont let me touch one because hes a tool freak. If you want to find a cheap nail or staple gun go to a contractor supply place and they usally can help you find old gun that the contractors are getting rid of so talk to them and usally you can get pretty good deals. Aaron to answer your question you can you them as fast as you can pull the trigger but there not automatic.

the thing about nails is there not very areodynamic and will go straight for a few feet then tumble because of the mass of weight at the back

just add weight to the front or take away weight from the back, that would work, or if you could mod the barrel you could add some stabilizing fins to the nails
