you should check your local ace or whatever you have too. the ace by me has stuff up to 4 inch, and the lowes and homedepot dont have anything over 2.

okay i didnt read all of the comments but if you had access to a lathe you could use UHMW or some kind of polyethylene, possibly even teflon to make a piston. just a suggestion, i've made one out of UHMW before.

yea im quite proud of it i got the volume down now to where the cannon doesnt lose power but has less of a bang

working on making the combustion run on propane, but i think my #s are off, http://www.burntlatke.com/ft_live.html says ill need 20" of 1" pipe for my meter, or 24" of 3/4'' pipe, the chamber is 3" abs by 24"

yea a 20" length of 1" pvc seems a little big for metering propane. i made a combustion tennis ball cannon with a 4 x 18" chamber and if i remember correctly, i think my meter pipe was, er, like maybe 6" long and 1/2" diameter.

i guess i should have noted my tank is 50 psi not 90, either that or my pressure gauge is borked

In that case pressure is about half, so the length of the metre pipe approximately doubles.

oh, before i forget, has anyone every tried using acetylene gas instead of propane? I have an oxy-gas welding torch and just thought of trying it. :idea:
