I just wanted to shine the light on pool floation devices or "noodles" as i call them. They are extremely low density(who woulda guessed) and make perfect wadding for a giant "shotgun". They also allow you to kick fragile projectiles into hyperdrive because they transfer the sudden shock into more of a hard shove. They can be squished to make a relatively airtight seal. Works expecially great if you run out of potatoes and want to use rocks.

Pool noodles are great for saboting.

I sabot nerfs to bring them up to bore spec. And have to use them firing full soda cans at pressures above 150 psi. Otherwise the cans explode in the barrel from the pressure spike.

Link about noodle rounds, they are used by Medieval reenactors.

I find that at high pressure the swim noodles change size due to the compression of the gas in them. I have shot sabots past full water bottles and golf balls in the barrel. I only use the foam sabots for low pressure shots such as launching fragile eggs. Done properly is it possible to launch an egg over 100 yards. :D

To use a swim noodle I combine it with half of a pop bottle. The noodle provides projectile cushion and the pop bottle provides the barrel seal.

I haven't had the misfortune of exploding soda cans on launch probably because I haven't launched at over 100 PSI yet. A 100 PSI soda launch provides a whale of a kick.

This style sabot provides much higher power over a foam sabot that shrinks to less than 1/2 size during a 50+ PSI shot.

The kick is okay....as long as someone else volunteers to take it. :D

Okay, so it's not a full redbullcan, wich are lighter than the bigger coke cans even when full, but still...

So that's why the cans explode...
Would wadding really help?
At pressures over 300-400 psi??

That would be very helpfull at the European Pumpkin Chunkin demonstration I plan to give next year..

my guess with soda cans would be that the massive g-forces create a spontaneous homogeneous nucleation within the can and causes the pressure inside the can to rise well beyond what it can handle... non carbonated cans don't explode even at 175psi shots... and I've shot small eyedrop bottles fillerd with water at 750psi and they hit the target pretty hard... :D

And the hipster has a teensy weensy bit of kick when I launch 24oz monster cans full of water at 150psi...

I had an adult drop the cannon launching a full 12 oz cola from the 2 inch QDV even though they were warned of the kick. It was dropped because he lost balance from the recoil. It now has a small dent. :(
