7 x 12 Mini lathe bargain

Today, the price of the 7 x 12 mini lathe from Homier dropped (even if the price was low 450$, normally 500$) to 372$

(The price drop would be due to the fact that a new model with a new motor just got out )

But expect to spend the same amount on tooling as the lathe itself. Centers.. turning tools..boring bars etc.

I always play with these little lathes when I go to the machinery place..Very cute.

After you decide which tooling you'll need, price check it at BusyBee tools and Travers. They're in Canada, and I've noticed that Littlemachine shops prices aren't necessarily the best ones available.

Don't forget to factor in the shipping and border costs. Never ship via courier or UPS...they'll screw you royally with the "brokerage" fees.

I only use USPS...no brokerage, and the worst that has ever happened is I get hit up for the gst and a $5 collection fee.

UPS on the other hand..charged me $53US shipping and another $50CDN for brokerage. The item was purchased on ebay for $26US.

yep, I'm currently fighting my parents to let me buy one. Anyone know where to get a steady rest or a follower rest? HF has one, but not the other. And they have free shipping on everything over $20. This qualifies, but their mill doesnt

Busybeetools are evrywhere but in the only french speaking province of canada : Quebec

Know what? I've just hit myself with a pvc pipe that broke and opened my arch of eybrow ! There was blood evrywhere... Strangely i didnt felt any pain and after 30 minutes (20 minutes of car travelling to the hospital) thanks to canada health care system it was as nothing happened but with some nices stiches.

Look it up at http://www.harborfreight.com then go to http://www.minilathe.com and study. In fact go to minilathe.com first so you know what to order from harbor freight.

well, they were already "upset" about other random things that don't even involve me. In my experience, it is futile to ask someone "on edge" if I can borrow their credit card to spend $375 on a tool they think I won't even use. They don't really respect my hobbies. They ask "what are you going to do with it."

That said, I will hopefully order mine tonight.

It looks like that bargain sale was not ment to last long. I am really sorry for you...

Its 500 $ from now on or if you search you might find another bargain like this one.

Its not against you, but i know 'parents' like that that are the ones of my friend, and he cant even make spudguns.

To convince them, you really need to be smart and tactical. I convinced my parents to buy me a mini airsoft while it was 18 and plus by presenting to them a lot of reviews left by parents and they finally agreed after one month.

Just show them thats its gonna make you learn a lot for the future or something like that so that you get ther approval and support (minesupport 2/3 of the price of wathever i buy related to crafting or electronic)

Its kinda like trying to sell them a product. Just show that you insist without exagerating and they will eventually agree.

In case anyone else is looking for a good deal on a mini lathe Toolsnow.com has the same mini lathe for $500 but it comes with a bunch of accessories like a fixed steady, moving steady, basic cutting tools, and a dead center.

Hopefully, I'll be getting one soon also, I've been drooling over them for the 6 months or so and now I've saved up enough money to actually get one.

I emailed Homier, and they said it was just out of stock. I have a feeling it was clearance to make room for the C2 (with the brushless, 1KW motor), and it might be out of stock permanently.

Also, Harbor Freight has a 1 year price match guarantee. If anyone took a screenshot of the lathe in their cart (preferably with the 10% coupon), that could maybe be printed, taken to Harbor Freight, and have the price matched down to $335 including tax.

Speaking of Harbor Freight, none of the local ones stock the 7x12. I am only upset because I have like 5 20% off coupons from popular science that are in-store only.

The tools included with the toolsnow lathe that I would actually use amount to less than $50, but if I can't find a Harbor Freight with the lathe in stock, I might have to go for it.

Demon, you are a lucky son of a gun. (did you get my PM?)

and if I hadn't gone to a friend's house last Saturday, I would be playing with the lathe now...

Maybe i am not that lucky, because now the dc motor controller will get obselete and if it fails... i would need to buy a new set of brushless motor and controller.
