... but at the same time, you're losing air pressure because of air leaking into the magazine before the bolt is fully closed...

Well now after seeing that video I may just stumble back into trying to make a semi again. Might stay low calibur though. Who knows...

I still think you could cut a foot off of your chamber. I feel as though since you have such an effective bolt, that you should further optimize this for conservation or time and air.

Awesome!!! I love the bolt design, I may have to consider attempting something like this on a smaller scale.

Nice. About the only comment I could make is you may consider adding a detent to keep some of the balls from rolling out the barrel.

Hubb I was meaning to ask you, does an o-ring detent in ANY WAY OR AMOUNT effect the performance? I want to put one on my GB piston valve cannon, but I'm not sure if it will harm performace.

Assuming the air has nowhere else to go, a detent will actually increase performance, because it gives the valve more time to open and more pressure buildup behind the projectile before it starts to move. A properly engineered detent can be used on a valveless launcher that would have better performance than a burst disk ;)

If anything, it would probably help performance, although it probably wouldn't be noticed with electronics. The detent would hold the round just a little bit longer and will build pressure behind the round before it releases.

I think JSR used this concept in one of his builds...

Edit: Okay, apparently I was too late in my response, but I figured he would have provided the link to one...which he did.

it does have a detent but some of the balls are undersized and fell through. so i sorted them and no longer have the problem seen in the video
