3/4" sounds like it could provide a pretty hefty shot. If we're not careful, fun may ensue.

If we use imperial measurements many members cannot participate in the building.(just getting that out there)

Also using cartridges doesn't actually make the projectile sealing idea un usable, last but not least, if we find a way to make uniform projectiles out of lead using a mold then we could fire forster slug type ammo and ball bearings of the desired size.

I still think it would be a good idea to not use burst disks.

By the way, is there a way to figure out how much pressure would be needed to un seat a projectile that have been inserted into a tube that is undersized for it at room temperature by heating the tube? We could use that to figure out an even easier way of making a "burst disk inspired" valve.

Piston hybrids have been made, why not make it like that?

I think any semi-automatic design using recoil or pressure to cycle is a waste of energy. Using 1/2" as a barrel would be pretty much the most convinient for most people (i guess).
Two bottles, propane and air, a regulator on the propane one, one and only valve for both tanks : when valve is opened, meter is pressurised with both propane and air coming respectively in stoechiometric ratios (regulator set to give exactly 4.2% of the amount of air per time unit.) When pressure in the meter is reached, valve is closed and meter is dumped into the chamber. second valve closes, ignition does its thing, kaboom , bravo.

While I made it too small to work in terms of ignition, I think the "non burst disk" hybrid cartridge has some merit to it.

Well then lets put a budjet on this project, or keep it theoretical, but lets continue what we started!

Interesting suggestion. Simply discussing things on a theoretical level (any of the proposed projects, in fact) could spawn some ideas which individuals could make use of for their own individual projects.

I think we could probably reshape the whole community projects thing into just doing design for one central "client" who has the ultimate decision on design elements (and who would also eventually foot the bill). For example, we could do this design with Poland Spud at the helm.

The "client" might have to decide where to make sacrifices (either on budget or design specs), but with a central person, that would be less of an issue to decide what got the chop.

Community construction could potentially come in later after the design is done, with members offering parts and construction where they like.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

yeah this might work...
Having one person who takes decisions speeds up the process and makes everything simpler from the very beginning

the way it is now everyone can contribute but they also have the right to accept something or not... even though it seems fair, this basically means that no consensus can be reached...

it's not that the idea was wrong but the framework of the community project has to take such things as psychology into consideration

EDIT
Have a look here

Business is business.

Vote for a project manager. He has the all empowering say-so. He must be open minded, and smart enough to make decent decisions. He must allow a dual train of thought to see if one idea, in the end, is better than another. We may complain, but we must concede to the all powerful Project Manager.

At least this way it will start to roll.

A 300X hybrid pen gun should be interesting. I'll get right on it.
