)Metal lathe
Hello machinists, I got some problems,( make fun of me after my problem is solved) I got a small metal lathe, most likly not going to be turning any thing larger than 4 inches, although it is small it is completely manual, but it has some missing parts, like the centers, probably some bits, and above all a motor, it is relatively old too. Can anyone post some picks to help explain metal lathes to me? Also any tips or tricks on using it? Also is there any tools that you would call mandatory? Wouldn't mind having a friendly machinist make me a live center?( just kidding )

Honestly Google is your best resource, LeMaudit's and JSR's build through on Dimply is a good way to learn a few tricks, and most of all, use the goddamned thing, a lot. Buy a bench grinder, sharpen your own tools, and you'll be set for ages.

Cameras still work when it's 20 degrees, post a bunch of pictures...and give the make and model number, you know better then to leave that info out! I was cold, my dad made me watch a movie, and I didn't have my IPod... Sorry jrrdw, you guys had me when all I thought about was spudfiles and fishing, now I have school and I must say that algebra 2 ( a year up class only 9 other people) is realy getting to me and my science oil maps projects don't help ether, sorry no model number, oh crap my image shack is out of days..... I don't know how to upload any more. ( i still don't have cash to pay for an account is there any way you moderators could try to get uploading on this site?)

Looks like a Delta Wood lathe conversion. How are the bearings? Smooth, rough, sloppy or tight? From looking at the pictures you need: moter and cone pulleys, tailstock lock. Build a motor mount with belt tensioner. Give it a good cleaning you might find a ID tag...
Start searching ebay for parts, motor and pulleys can be some what universal as long as the pulleys are close to the same size and the motor should be about 1/3rd horsepower max RPM 1250.
If you didn't pay much for it say 100 or so looks like you're off to a good start.

It was free and it has everything in smooth working order, found a motor, possibly, the belt is killed, and the wheel for the move ing of the carving thingy is just a little squeaky,.
