Well theres this horse farm behind my house a ways and they have an electric fence. It's not that bad touching one wire but when you touch 2 it gives you a nasty jolt. I was just thinking one time and wondering if you could like take an extension cord and cut off one end, separate the wires and attach them to the fence and plug something into the other end for electricity. I probably won't actually do it I was jw. I imagine you would need something to step down the electricity if it was too much or something.

Eletric fences have tons of current, but very very low amprage. It wouldn't drive a motor, but you could see the spark arc from the dark side of the moon. I would like to see someone build a massive cannon and use a fence box for ignition, just for shits and giggles!

I wasn't looking for it to run a motor. Maybe like a tv?

Most house hold items have a certin required amount of amprage draw that is needed to start up, for instence when you 1st turn on your tv you here a click inside, then the crackle of stacit across the screen. With out the proper amount of amprage, it wouldn't start/turn on, at least not rite away. It would have to warm up 1st, collect enough power to work properly.

Are you looking to shoot a tv while it's turned on? Or watch porno's in the field, lol. If thats the case, 12volt power inverters are dirt cheep on ebay, get a car battery, hook up the inverter, plug in the tv, turn it on, and fire at will. The battery wont hold up to long on it's own, inverters drain them fast without a recharging system. As far as how much power, it depends on the size of the tv.

no I am just wondering if I could basically get electricity in the middle of the woods. And for free.

You could probly use a step up transformer, the current allready alternates, so you wouldn't need a converter. The problem is all these things cost, so you couldn't do it for free.

We have a fence tester with 5 lights on it, has a little hook on 1 end, and a spike on a wire. You push the spike in the ground, hook the little hook on the fence, the more light that light up, the better the fence is working. If all 5 lights light up it's a very strong fence.
Mr. - there's very low amprage, but alot of current. 2 different things. Amprage kills, current shocks, i don't know how to explain the differances.

Jrrdw, did you say it has a High current but a low amperage? That kinda clashes since they are the same thing. Maybe you meant voltage for one of those?

high voltage low current. thats the same way a stun gun works, you can hav 700,000 volts and just have it zap you a lot
in the upcoming presidential election, there will be several candidates who will be running, one of whom is Hillary Clinton. Now WAIT A SECOND!!! I though there was some sort of rule that prevented someone from serving more than two terms in office. Vote Against Hillary: Presidential Elections 08

As sgort said, Amps and current are the same thing.
Volts and Amps are seperate.
In simple terms to help people remember:
- Volts is how likely you are to get shocked.
- Amps is how hard you are being shocked.
- Multiply them together to get Watts, and it tells you how brightly you'll be glowing.
Electric fences are high voltage, with a low pulsed current.
I think over one second they create a 150 ms pulse, then they're off for a bit, then they start again.
So it would be useless to run anything off, because of that pulsed nature - unless you built a special box o' tricks to smooth it out.

Novacastrian: How about use whatever the heck you can get your hands on?
frankrede: Well then I guess it won't matter when you decide to drink bleach because your out of kool-aid.
...I'm sorry, but that made my year.
