im new: abs question

hey. im new to this site and have never built a spud cannon myself but have fired one many times a number of years ago. my question is how safe is abs pipe? i have looked through all the forum and seen different responses. i just made a canon from abs pipes. i see no "air bubbles" on the ends. there is no pressure rating on the pipes. however, it says dwv. the canon i built is a combustion canon with a 4" x 1' 9" chamber and about a 2" x 3' 7" barrel. is this safe to use? i dont want to blow my ass up. any help is appreciated. thanks.

ABS is fine for combustions. it will not shatter, it will rip, so less chance of getting hurt. ABS can handle impacts, low temperature and chemicals better than PVC.

I have some ABS and pvc mixed togegher but never in a combustion tank situation.Obviously you can build a good cannon out of either kind but just don't do a mix at a critical point where you have combustion ,lots of pressure or a piece that could fly off and strike your body.. The piece I mixed is a barrel which I use with a pneumatic to shoot 2" spuds and I also use it on my combustion .It has a pvc 2" female connector attached to a lenght of 2" ABS. You can get hurt with any of this equipment if you do not glue it properly.or just do something plain stupid. yesterday ,I was shooting spuds up in the air just over my neighbors house into his front yard and he was doing the same with a cannon I gave him.. I decided to send one over with my pneumatic. well. even with a near straight up shot to get it to land 200 ft. away. it overshot and hit another neighbors shop building 800 ft. away. sure glad he wasn't home.javascriptemoticon(':lol:')

ABS is perfectly accpetable for combustion cannons.
Not once have I heard of a ABS combustion failing from aersosal fuels yet I alwayd hear about PVC cannons breaking from the combustion.
Take your ABS phobia out of your ***.ABS is more durable, better looking and safer than PVC in a basic combustion.

That all depends on who you ask. I would prefer PVC over the ABS just because it is a higher density and can be tapped easier.

The ABS fittings often have smaller injection mold marks. So there is less work to make them look good.

what kind of abs are you talking about?
Mine is black and doesn't bend like pvc.
