My sister recently had to do an essay about whether or not she thinks violence on TV causes kids to become violent people. She said it did not and wrote an amazing essay to back it. Now her loony, sexist (anti-male), ignorant, buttwipe professor disagreed and gave her a D. When my sister presented statistics, the teacher responded with "OMG, do you think you're an expert?"

So, discuss... Does TV make kids violent, or not?

And to go along with it: Image

The thing is - i think the people who react to violence wether it be on TV or from magazines or whatever already have the mental capacity to carry out these act. Obviously you don't know me but i absolutly love violant film, fighting film and martial arts - but i would not go out afterwards and try to copy this, purely because this is not my mentality

That my opinion!!!

People just want to blame something, since they refuse to take responsibility for their actions.
Video games are a different matter though, I think they actually help you get it out of your system. But, that's how I've always been. When I get pissed off and want to smash something, I go grab the sledgehammer and smash a VCR or something, and after that I don't feel angry any more, or at least as angry.

Violence is the result of the numbing of our sensibilitys . We are numbed by the violence we observe in any sort of media simply because we are led to believe that this depiction is not real but a fantasy in which the portrayors go on to live normal lives and the violence is merely a normal part of life. With each succesive incident we become enured to the fact that people really do get hurt and killed in real life. Eventually we no longer are able to differentiate between reality and fantasy.

TV does not contain half the violence that newspapers and other news media have in them.
Why do newspapers get no blame? Is it because newspapers are considered wholesome and TV is not?

Any media venue is to blame whether it be the newspaper, the tube, or the silver screen (including video games). Any media that demeans and lessens the value of a human life is to blame. Humanity is attracted to that thing which is the most violent-witness the wars in the middle east or elsewhere. Life is viewed as a cheap commodity and is lessened by anything that portrays anothers demise as just another insignificant event. Witness the idea that one life may be sacrificed for the better of another-such as stem cell research that uses the fetus-an unborn child-for the betterment of another!
Wow! Kill one for the salvation of another! Or if you wish to take it to the extreme search out the movie "Soylent Green".

no, It is not the TV's fault. It is your own. I did not go out with an Uzi and shoot a cvs pharmacy in half after I saw the matrix. the whole concept is retarded.
