Question about valves
I want to buy some valves for a metering system, and I want them to operate automatically; ie. I don't want to have to grab onto a handle. I want to push a button and have them open. What would the fastest opening valve be? I want to push the button and have it be completely open right away. I keep looking at online stores but it never tells how fast they open. I'm assuming a pneumatic solenoid would open fastest, but what about an electric solenoid? And would it be cheaper to get one 3-way valve or 2 2-way valves?

they don't need to open fast it doesn't matter.
Yes, but I don't want to hear about how it probably won't work.
Like I said, its more of an experiment than a gun. Its like a device to test a bunch of theories before I try building an actual full auto one. I consider it to be the advanced prototype, and fully expect it to fail. I just want to learn from my mistakes, and hopefully someday develop a working one, or at least learn how to improve on single shot guns.

you could use small moded sprinkler valves.

They normaly work on a magnetic field, so i would think it depends on the power of the magnetic field that is doing the work. Also how long it takes the electric to charge the field, and the reaction time it takes you to push the butten. Maby your experments should start with solinoids???

There are hundreds if not thousands of different types of solenoids. If you go to the junk yard, ask forw a Chevy airconditioning throttle kicker. They work on 12 volt dc negitive ground. You should be able to get it real cheep. The 1 in my wheelchair lift is bad ass, but it cost $220.00 dollars, it's really strong and fast, for working the drift out locking latch.

It varies but it you really need to make it open faster then just add juice
Killagorrilla had an irrighation solinoid and he said it worked well and actuated VERY quickly. Heres the link, you might want to ask him about it http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4378&

If you could tell us we could tell you if your question is relevent. They open in a few miliseconds. They open almost instantly.Tshylea wrote:Or, you know, someone could be nice enough to tell me how fast solenoids open. I thought it was a simple question....
Btw. spinkler valves might not work for a metering system because they need pressure to seal, and you would have the pressure on the wrong side.
