sorry if this has already been made but heres an idea i thought might work for a great mine...

It will start with a peice of 4"X3"pvc that will have a tire valve put in the be converted to 1/2" using a 3">2" bushing, then a 2">1" bushing, then a 1">1/2", the 1/2" bushing will be shaved out on the inside so the pipe will slide through a burst disk will be put on the the front of the3">2" bushing. a peice of 3"X1/2" will need to be sharpned (just like sharpning a barrel knife) on the other end of the pipe will go a 1/2">1" bushing fallowed by a 1">2"(this will allow for somthing to step on). a clean out cap will be put on the 3"pvc in order to replace the burst disk.

how this will operate is.. first you will put on a burst disk, then set the 1/2" pipe(trigger type thing) in the top resting on the burst disk in side, then fill it with what ever you please. from there you can pressurize the chamber.

when someone steps on the 1/2" pipe(trigger) the pipe will break through the disk and propelling what ever is in the pipe upward.

the burst disk is red in the pic.

comments are appreciated thnx

OK, I couldn't understand any of the first part of your post, but the picture and pipe/trigger thing seem like a pretty good idea. The only problem is that air is lighter than paint, so it will most likely shoot a little bit of paint and a big burst of air.

It would work better if you had a piston separating the air and pant because of the fact that noname stated.

It’s good that you can come up with ideas like this; this is a very good design, with the suggested modifications, it would be very impressive. But it has one big draw back, all the paint would be sprayed straight up into the poor fool that stepped on it.
Now, if that same mine had gone off shortly after the guy stepped OFF the mine, then it would get him and, if done right, anybody walking with him.
Deferent types of mines work good in different situations, if you’re mining a large open area, then you want a pressure mine that sprays large volumes of paint in a wide blast radius. If you’re mining a trail you’ll want an “off-route” mine. There is no such thing as a “one size fits all” mine; you’ll need to figure out what you need it to do than make a mine designed to do it.
So now the question is, where are you planning on using this mine, and what are you trying to do by laying mines (i.e. slow an enemy’s approach, prevent an enemy from flanking you, etc.)?

For big groups, I'd say the best design for a mine like this would have a few different branches for the paint to blast out of, or for CTF you could have a few branches pointing out at an angle from the flag, so when someone steeped on the pressure pade, no matter where they were, they wouldn't get the flag, etc.

You know those lawn sprinkler heads; they would give your mine a wide blast radius.
Would a piston valve work with liquids?

Sure, but you'd need the rubber to dry off before using it again. That's why you don't shoot water out of sprinkler valve guns unless you have a check valve.

Ok I kind of understand about the piston valve, but a sprinkler valve was designed for liquids.

Yeah, I find that strange also, try it yourself if you want to. With my first sprinkler valve, 2-3 years ago, I shot with water and then thought it was broken, because it wouldn't seal after the shot.

Well I’ve shot water out of my big gun with no ill effects, I’ve even put water in the chamber, which looks really cool.

Hmm, maybe my gun had some dirt or something in the valve. Whatever. Wow, this forum has been getting kind of ADD the past few weeks, just like the Air Delay Mine topic.

true, so lets get back on topic… wait, would talking about paint mines be off topic, seeing how this topic was about one specific type of mine?

Well, no, because this topic is about paint mines, and we're helping him improve his designing (I guess).

thanks for the suggestions guys. judgmentarms my goal of the design was only to have a simple, cheap mine to maybe build some sort of mine field. And yes Recruit a piston will definetly make this mine better. ill try to make a new drawing this week.
