Okay, here we go. This is my first serious attempt at a pneumatic cannon. It uses a 3/4" QEV. It fires .5" steel ball bearings. The pilot side of the setup has (from pilot to back) a pressure gauge, a blowgun, a ball valve with 1/8" NPT on one side and female paintball threads on the other, an 88 gram adapter, and finally, the 88 gram cartridge.

My cannon uses a breech loading mechanism adapted from one developed by someone on spudtech a while back. I don't remember who, so please post and give appropriate credit if you do remember. It is a ball valve with a hole drilled in the side while the valve is in the closed position. I load the ammo (.5" steel ball bearing) from the side of the ball valve and then turn the valve into the open position to make ready for firing.

The barrel is a 36" long brass hobby tube with an OD that fits nicely into .5" PVC and an ID that fits the ball bearings perfectly. I also have a small piece of this same type of tube inside the ball valve. I was going to use magnets to hold the ammo in place, but luckily I got a bit of dried glue in the tube while gluing the tube into the ball valve. This makes the fit tight enough to hold the ball bearings in place until pushed.

My chamber is pretty self explanitory, and my chamber:barrel ratio is 3:1. I've only fired it at 15 PSI due to a lack of space (I live in the suburbs), and it put a 1/3" hole into an old door. The QEV is rated to 125 PSI, and my gauge goes up to 100 PSI. I would have made the whole thing metal and bought a higher gauge, but due to the pressure limit on the QEV it's not worth making the cannon heavier. I can't wait to fire it at 100 PSI though!

I think I got the pics up right, but if not, I'll keep trying. I'm new to this, so any comments/suggestions/criticisms are welcome. Hope you like!

That is wicked! Like spudthug said though, if you don't have a reg or a pop off valve, it's not to smart to be shooting that... I love that breech loader!

I like the breach loading mechanism. Your ball bearing idea is great, especially for that size barrel, and the breach loader. Nice JOb!

Well, the CO2 comes out slowly and I can turn it off when I see the pressure gauge get to 100 PSI. That takes a little under 10 seconds to get to though. Do you still think it's dangerous? If so, I will add a pop-off; which, come to think of it, is probably a good idea anyway- just in case.

EDIT: I don't know how many shots I get but I've fired at least 10 blank shots (no ammo) at about 80 PSI so far, and it is still filling.

Okay, I found where I think I got the breech-loading ball valve idea from, so credit goes to Chewy- in spud-heaven...here's the link:

Cool cannon love the breech load Idea and mabe if you get a regulator too you might be able to use a bigger co2 tank. Good job though :)

hmm it may be a little unsafe because if something happens and u cant get it off it will go boom....so i recomend a 125-150 psi pop off

that breech loading system is genius, even if you 'borrowed' it off someone else.

Good canon all up but you should put a barrel support
