I'm building a combustion rifle based on the RPG 2 to launch water balloons at camp... my only worry is that it would be too loud so how do I make a good silencer?

I want it quiet cos I don't want to let other residents hear the shot ..also so that during camp I can shoot my fellow campmates when they leave the toilet!
My barrell is a 3'' pipe about 3 feet long.

DIfferent idea. Never tried shooting a water balloon. I'd be suprised if the balloon held up to the initial force of launching though. I figure either way it should launch the water out of the barrel lol. Let us know if it works.

That is true and I concurr.
Aso Mortar fire -indirectly is safer.
Use a pool noodle hollowed out. -Just a thought.
On a side note: How then can discuss paintball on this site with the above mentioned rule? Just a thought i know no one objects.

a nice muzzle break would sorta help the sound issue a little, but not a lot... but it would sure make it look sweet when u fire! the muzzle break would help with the silencer, all u would need to do is get wrap some foam around the muzzle break to slow down the expanding gas, doesnt have to look good does it? and make sure that the holes in the muzzle break is big enough, but not affect the projectile's exit.

This forum has a search function.
In the future, USE IT.
Furthermore... we are somewhat tolerant of homemade paintball/airsoft guns when the designer is careful to keep them field-legal.
100 grams at 400 fps is NOT field-legal nor safe.
Anyways:
1) The best silencer in existence is a longer barrel.
2) This forum has a search function for a reason. USE IT!
Thread locked for repetitiveness.
