To be honest with you man, I really don't think an internet petition is going to work for you. The thing about those is, there's no proof that people really signed it, someone could have just come up with the names and put them on there. I know here in America the only petitions that do any good at all are written ones.

Hang on - is it legitimate to have people from outside Australia sign this?
I think you're limited to Aussie petitioners only.

Novacastrian: How about use whatever the heck you can get your hands on?
frankrede: Well then I guess it won't matter when you decide to drink bleach because your out of kool-aid.
...I'm sorry, but that made my year.

I think my belief in how seriously politicians would take it went through the floor when I noticed todays number one petition was "HELP BRING THE JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE CONCERT TO OTTAWA"
Wtf.
Wtf.

Also do not call them SpudGuns...The Word Gun mentioned puts people in that state of mind were people are getting hurt animals killed.Give it less of a intimidating name that doesn't bring some other picture to mind.

That could also be taken as a term for a weapon, haven't you heard of grenade launchers? Besides, aside from sounding less intimidating, these large words also serve to confuse and drive away individuals of lesser inteligence, a tactic that I take thorough advantage of.surfbum wrote:you could just call it a spud launcher

I'll eat my sh*t if a politician even considers a possible change in legislation from this "petition". Just because I am a asshole, I will make a list explaining my first statement.
-they are fun.........
*wraps a potato gun in duct tape*
- -Failure to capitalize, a skill learned in elementary school.
-Seems that little time was invested in the petition. (composing the original petition)
-Reasoning is vague, and absurd.
-they are fun.........
- First off why were so many periods needed? Just because a activity is "fun" that should not alter its legality.
- What kind of f*cking claim is that? Where did you even start to get a basis for that claim? Every time I have a potato gun around my friends the first thing they want to do is shoot each other. Although I know my personal friends can not be definitive as to the general populations reaction, but after seeing a collection of things, I think that is the general reaction. I have seen countless videos on YouTube, and other video sites of people shooting a potato gun at other people. If you truly believe this to be the case, maybe give some supporting evidence?
- What kind of binding factor does the age of 13 wield? Potato guns are relatively simple in operation, so age in accordance with intelligence is not going to limit ones ability to construct such a device. I am sure I could pull a 8 year old off the street, put him in front of some net plans, and get him to build one. The age is not altering the construction, rather the interest possibly. Again, lets get some supporting facts with those claims.

I think Pimpman may have a very good point there.
Hey, there are a load of pillocks that think crack cocaine is fun, but that's not going to make it legal.
Having seen several youtube videos of people getting shot with potatos, then I can't believe that everyone is sensible. Just having one idiot can ruin it.
However, I find that my friends are very sensible relating to spudguns. When you show them holes through steel plate, people begin to realise these have to be used exceptionally carefully.
To get it past the politicitans, you need reasons more along the lines of (Hey, copy them if you want):
Spudguns can aid in scientific learning:
A potato launcher is an excellent method of adolescents (in both mind and body) learning about certain scientific principles.
This mix of education and entertainment is likely to lead an increased number of teenagers to take science and engineering based academic routes, boosting the worryingly low number of new entrants into these careers - if this reducing trend continues, it could threaten economic stability.
Allowing legal spudguns can only improve the countries economic status.
Spudguns have limited power, range, rate of fire, accuracy and are physically large:
Potato launchers do not have the potential to be used aggresively against people. This prevents their use for physical crimes against the person.
This limited power spawns from their method of propulsion - potato cannons do not use solid propellant, and it is not possible for any gas powered device to achieve high energies, except in exceptionally large physical sizes.
Although more powerful variants can exist, because of their homemade nature, these are only ever produced by dedicated hobbists, who will not risk losing their hard work by using it criminally.
*****
That's two loosely written ones to start with. Flesh them out, add morem and then check your spelling and grammar. (Not using capitals - as you did, will not help)
Don't write about why you want them legalised - write about why a politican might want them legalised.
Anyone who's found the the petion and is signing it will know their reasons for doing so. You don't need to speak to them - speak to the government.
Do that, and you might have a slim chance. Continue as you are, and you'll have a whelk's chance in a supernova of succeeding.
