It wont pass inspection. I've taken it to two places to get it inspected as of yet, and it failed the emissions test both times. It's very old, but not old enough to be exempt from emissions.
Test results say it runs a little rich in idle. 370ppm HC, the standard here (Texas) is 220ppm. I don't really know what I should do to fix it. I just need it to pass so I can get to work and back.
Edit: It's a 1987 Chevrolet R10 Custom Deluxe Pick-up.
I just bought a truck

There's really a lot of things it could be, many of which require a two-ton engine hoist to take the entire engine out to get at things like the valves, etc.

Beleave it or not, when you have a rich mixture turn up your idle. This allows for more air and a cleaner burn of fuel mixture, only if your engine is carberated. If you have any type of fuel injection, have it cleaned by a cleaning machine, replace the Co2 sensor, in that order, then you should be fine. The cleaning should cost between 50 and 75 dollars. The preformance you will gain from the cleaning will save you gas money by years end!

If worse comes to worse, give a little bit of a tip. I have never failed inspection.

Btw what are your plans with the truck if it does manage to pass inspection? I am guessing its a carb setup with a lot of room in the engine space to play with. Do you have any plans for upgrades?

I'm poor and dont know anything about cars, so buying a cat, or messing around with the valves isn't possible for me.
But the problem is solved, in an cheaper and easier fasion.
Sooo, I drove it waaayyy out into the country to some hole in the wall gas station that was converted into a shop. They inspected it, and for some hush-money, they hooked it up to their car and somehow I magically passed...
Edit: I can post pictures tomorrow probably, only cellphone pictures though, I dont have a real camera.

It's not the original motor, it is supposed to be fuel injected, but it's not. And like I said, I don't know much about cars, so the only things I plan on doing to it is making a cannon in the back of it.I am guessing its a carb setup with a lot of room in the engine space to play with.
